Hi!

Just got one and trying to get it painted for saturdays games. I assembled it with Brightlance (i know, expensive, but only BS4 AV14 popper in my list) and two flamers plus the sword. I think this is the nicest option for my lists. What do people generally go for?

Well...they say a picture says a thousand words

I has a lot. I really like WLords and hope they don't get screwed in the next dex. Bright lances are good, I use Lances with Missile Launchers to get more bang for buck.

Cheapy with a cannon and a sword to run at the enemy is also a good option

I applaud your taste, my friend. I've always loved the plastic Wraithlord sculpt. I own 2, and I don't even play Eldar. Nice paint, too.

Here's my currently WL loadout. I find the sword is a no-brainer at its cost and it gives the army needed AP2 @ I4 - doesn't hurt that its Str 10 either and the re-rolling to hit helps big time with only 2 base attacks.

Seeing these kind of models always make me happy, but then i look my own "paint job" and be like, "Dude, you really cant paint" :)

Sword is a must, i agree, plus it looks cool, i also like the fact that he has BS4. My plan is to have him in cover, with a cheap Farseer boosting him and if (when, gonna face BA/GK...jump units anyone?) the need arrives, taking care of the backyard...i hope that i´m gonna get a chance to go one on one with a Dreadknight (although, i´m pretty sure of the outcome...)

I'll indulge in a little wishlisting here, but I really hope that in our new codex, we'll be able to pull off a WL with dual swords just because I really want an excuse to model it.

I'd just like to see Wraithlords get more than 2 measly attacks. I'll even take a reduction in S for it. I'd like to see them becoming the equivilent of a Dreadknight (2+ Armour, an invuln)

Realistically I see them becoming lower toughness and Strength, but more attacks

Really, the sword with 2 attacks, combined with the fact that he's a character makes him pretty damn formidable.

An inv save would be nice but I doubt its going to happen.

Game terms at T8 maybe not

If we go to T7 or lower they deserve one. As it stands nearly everything that reliably wounds a Wraithlord Ignores the armour.

Fluff terms it makes no sense that Eldar would send their most revered ancestors and ancient relics into battle without some kind of invlun save.

Maybe Sword grants additional attacks, not a reroll?

I would just give them an extra WS, A and an invulnerable save. FW didn't give the Wraithseer an invulnerable save because it's a psyker, they did it because it's blatantly obvious that they should all have them.

Dreadknight has an Invl.save...Wraithlord has WS & BS 4 = ok, T8 (was it?) & S10 = ok, could go lower fe. T6 or 7 and S8, but as was said before, then at least 3-4 attacks (if with sword) and an 5+ invl. save...

My choice is Eldar Missile Launcher, Bright Lance and 2x Flamers.

I usually go Sword, ML and Flamers for mine. Personally I love the toughness 8, means I can ignore annoying things like Bolt Guns and Lasguns. I was thinking about maybe "Shrouded" for an upgrade cost. That would give a 5+ cover save vs Melta/Plasma Shots but still leave it vulnerable to Powerfists/Axes so better but not awesome. I would take a lower str (7/8) for a 2+ save option though.

The sword is kinda cool for its points, but it just gives rerolls to hit right? (sorry no codex at work). The GK sword is much better (though more costly)

I love the model however, and hope it is useful in next codex. My next purchase for Eldar will be a Wraithseer to go with my 2 Wraithlords and 10 Iyanden Wraithguard.

At the moment I field a single Wraith Lord with sword, flamers and star cannon. The sword seems to be a no brainer to me. Pretty much instant death on standard infantry up to T5, 2 d6 for armour penetration on vehicles, (Monstrous creature remember) what's not to like. Usually partnered with a unit with Warlock for that little extra something. The cheap farseer sounds like a good idea though, can he project a cover save or something?

However, for those of you who want the invulnerable, I have bought, but am yet to build the Wraithseer. Hello invulnerable saves, (Though I know its a forge world unit so not for tournaments). No wraithsight issue and an HQ choice with large scary weapons. Need to re-read the book I saw him in though for the full stat's

But back to my functional WLord. Not always used in battles, but he usually earns his points and creates a distraction. Those flamers do wonders for pre-assault on infantry and the star cannon is good for accurate ap2 stuff, crisis suits or terminators and alike. No one ever let him get close to their vehicles for some reason.

And it's always fun to roll a 22 on your pen roll and ask your opponent if is rear armor is AV23.

do monstrous creatures still get an extra D6? I thought they did away with that in 6e

They don't, instead they can halve their attacks, double their Strength and re-roll failed armour penetration rolls. I would never do it on a Wraithlord unless it charged an AV13-14 vehicle rear (or front with walker) though, as sacrificing one attack to make sure you penetrate the armour is worth it IMO. Against anything else, it doesn't really help.

They are some beautifully posed Wraithlords!

Personally I run two. Both are equipped with Flamers, Scatter Laser and an Eldar Missile Launcher. They pack a nice punch in the shooting phase alongside the Avatar and do well in combat provided they aren't bogged down too badly.

That said, the argument for the sword on this topic is a strong one and something I hadn't really considered before. I suppose the choice is made should you be planning on having them in Assault at some point or not.

It's alredy explained in the codex/fluff. :)

1. Wraithbone is extremely tough, and so offers excellent defence vs. heavy weaponry.

2. Should the terrible thing happen, and a wraithlord/wraithguard falls in battle, it's spirit stone is simply retrieved after battle and inserted into a new wraithlord/wraithguard(wraithknight? :p) body. :)

Hei, how does the Wraithseer come from Forgeworld? Is there a complete Wraithlord set with extra resin? I already have a metal conversion Wratithseer candidate, I'm just looking for those few extra bits - and I'd like to get the basic WLord in the package.

You get a normal GW WL + the resin bits to convert it into a WS. :)

So they don't shortchange you on the plastic?

I will run with either a BL/Sword/2 x Flamer or a SL/Sword/2 x Flamer loadout. I love those double flamers.

These are shots of the work in progress Wraithseer. Not really very impressive by today's standards, but a decent rescue of the old metal Wraithlord, and a valid purpose for my Harlequin bike canopy. I am bit worried about giving him a resin spear from the FW Wraithlord though: if he falls over, he'll snap it like osteoperosis.
