Morning all, at the end of the month I will have £500 of birthday money to spend on the hobby. Originally half of that would have been spent on spending a day and night in Nottingham so I could go to Warhammer World, but as a friend of mine asked me was I going to Warhammer World for something specific (I.e Forge World) or just to go for the fun of it? So it got me thinking, what could I spend £500 on?

I could buy £500 worth of FW Space Marine stuff, have 'fun' gluing it together and fixing any problems with the casting, then have a nicely painted old armour Space Marine army.

Another idea is I could buy £500 worth of new Tau, have a much easier time gluing the plastic models together and paint it and have a nice brand new army.

Or a suggestion from you guys :)

Mars Pattern Warhound Titan.

Though the £500 of FW Space Marine stuff does sound like fun, I've been eyeing up some bits and bobs but nothing at such a large scale.

HOOKERS AND BLACKJACK!!

or 2x 660ti

or old armour mks because they're awesome, or a thunderhawk gunship because they're awesome, or an imp guard tank company with lots of fw goodies.

Dunno. My answers were going to be, a la George Best, the vast majority should be on women and Booze - you can waste the rest. But that having been done, I would say go slow - spend only £100 max at a time, and build and paint everything before you spend the next £100.

Could go for a Realm of Battle board with 1 or more FW sections for added variety plus scenery, or even a Zone Mortalis board for awesome indoor 40k battles and Space Hulk games.

Something I forgot to mention, after cost of hotel, money saved for taxi fair and money for lunch and dinner at WH World, id have around £250 left to spend.

I don't drink and I think hookers are cheaper where I live, around £120 an hour :P

Problem with only spending £100 on FW at a time is that you have to pay postage which would amp up the price, whereas spending at least £250 means I get the stuff postage free and I think automatically grants me special delivery.

Also im only after armies, if I was going to get a board id just save up for the standard Realm board GW sell and use it at home once I move. No interest in Titans or superheavies as I don't get play Apoc.

Get yourself a Heresy Weekender ticket, and one of the besterest treats ever will happen. You can meet me in person! Woo! Priceless that.

Serial, it's gonna be fun. And with pre-release goodies (I'm fingers crossed for Fulgrim!)

RG, I like your original idea - get the Codex, and then decide. Me, if I had that kind of money to burn, it would be three Riptides, and as many of the flyer boxes as i could manage

I would vote that you get a few things at first, glue them together and get them painted and then get some more after that's done. A year or so before I got married I put a LOT of money into collecting an Ork army and well... the better part of 6000 points is still in boxes and its almost 3 years later. Only buy what you can paint!

What I find annoying is that when I look at the pre-heresy stuff for space marines I really want to buy them, yet when I go to the Tau page I really want to buy them too. Urgh :S

Go with the Tau. Of course, I just might be biased...

Wuss!

Besides, everyone knows that when a Hobbyist paints their last model.....they die.

I STILL NEED MORE BATTLEWAGONS!

but yeah, I guess its a more a strange psychological barrier than anything. Some people will look at the entirety of a problem and find its totality too daunting and be discouraged. Some people can probably dice it up a little better and not lose focus even when confronted with a literal army of small plastic creatures. If you know you won't be impacted by having 15 unopened boxes of toys then by all means go for it and make a big purchase, you'll probably make some store owners day at least haha. (Make sure you save a little for paints, glues, brushes and the like though, especially if this will be your budget for an extended period of time as a lot of "birthday money" tends to be.)
