Hey all,

Olberon is back with a new blog. After finishing a 750points ravenguard army which was sold for some good money (a mention on bols really helps.....) I was looking for a new army to paint. Listening to the "prospero burns" audiobook really made me fall i love with the Wilca Fenrica or space wolves as they are commonly known. Not aiming high this time i decided to take on a blog doing a battleforce at a time or several boxes.

I really wanted something special again with my Space wolves so i went for the grey scheme, a great deal of inspiration was found on white dwarf daily (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/wnt/blog.jsp?pid=6400028-gws) and found the artists blog over here (http://www.minimanie.de/article-tutorial-space-wolves-bemalen-how-to-paint-space-wolves-79895229.html) which lucky for me, had a great tutorial on how he painted his space wolves. Not even being as talented as the artist i decided to follow the guide loosely.

Thing is with the Battleforce sets is that there is a units of scouts in it. For now i decided to assemble the whole box so keeping the scouts and pod. this would give me the following:

4 scouts -ccw/boltpistols + sergeant (dunno which weapons yet)
9 grey hunters - meltagun, plasma pistol and standard
1 wolf guard - combi plasma, powerfist, meltabomb and power armour
1 droppod - stormbolter

tho yet far from legal (still need an HQ for instance) its a fun force to build.

3) This guy has worse game ADHD than I do, only he makes it profitable.
4) Say... do you think he takes comissions? I can't afford an army, but maybe I can pay him to paint one centerpiece model - like a captain or a librarian or maybe a dreadnought - just so I can say "I hung out with him on the forums" after he wins his freaking Golden Daemon and is too cool to hang out with us? That would be neat.

I hate GW for putting those pics up. I painted my wolves based off the cover/description in the Ragnor books. Since this article all i get is o you took that from such and such and it drives me mad, and my dread i built then gets a look a like in one of the books. On a plus note the models look good. Rant over

ive spend the better half of today and yesterday building myself a new armylist. the aim was to go all pods, as the common reader of my blogs you might have noticed i have a soft spot for these things. Why?? you might ask. the answer is simple; i love the design, they are a pain to assemble but a joy to paint. and on top of that dumping a series of these things on a battle field is just epic!!

And although im not a really big fan of using special characters i decided to build a list around ragnar blackmane. i really like the fluff around this guy (tho lukas the trickster is a close one) and it really fits the theme of my army.
i dont really like the 80's model of ragnar so i decided to convert my own.

i have to say he was a joy to paint except for the face!
i decided not to over highlight the armour as it tend to get white grey really soon and that messes up the armour pretty quick

Today ive been working on my first runepriest i didnt want to got for a real hard conversion on the model -i just really want to have some paint slapped on him- so i basically used all the part right out of the box and did some minor alterations on just 2 of them.
Head - snipped of the topnotch. really liked the head but not the hair. (see picture)
left shoulderpad - added some runes in the shoulderpad (see picture)

Great work, man. Very inspiring. I especially like the runes you carved into the pauldrons; can you offer any good tips on how to do that? I'm assuming you just used an X-acto knife? The way they're rounded looks somehow natural to the pauldrons, like the model was cast that way. Very rad!

I also like your Ragnar; I was debating whether to make my own vs. use the official model. How does the official model compare in size to the modern space marine; is he shorter due to being an older edition model, like Ulrik?

Thanks for the compliment! To answer your question . yes its done with an x-acto knife but to be honest a really blunt one just start with a rough idea of rune you want and start carving then get some really fine sand paper (wet and dry works best!) and polish the surface back to a smooth surface then get out your x-acto and start carving the opposite direction to smoothen out the rune with some wet and dry. after your done get a brush and remove the final dust and your done Dont apply to much force on the x-acto and take your time. It really doesnt matter if your scratch the pad just go over with some wet and dry and its gone.


I also like your Ragnar; I was debating whether to make my own vs. use the official model. How does the official model compare in size to the modern space marine; is he shorter due to being an older edition model, like Ulrik?

If i can make a suggestion make your own! it gives you alot more posing options then the static pose the original model has. also the size older models tend to be a bit smaller (correct me if im wrong)

im really happy how the face came out! too bad you can see it clearly in the pics but it has a lot of detail to it.

Hey all

Just finished my second rune priest a few seconds ago and really wanted to share it with you.
I really loved painting this guys face ... it has some real madness to it which i really like in a rune priest (read: ranting shaman)

This model is kinda special to me since i really wanted to start with the face. usually one of the things i paint last. but revered the whole shabang just to see how it works.

The power weapon..... im not tho happy about it, but im not to keen on repainting it either.... so for now i let time decide its faith.

Yesterday evening i started on my new project which is the drop pod for my 5 wolf guard -and rune priest-
after checking out a lot of scheme's of the pod i finally went for the classical look that means i will be painting a lot of yellow but lucky for me i got an airbrush so ill just spray the yellow.

I found a really nice tutorial from buypainted.com which ill be using as a loose guide to help me trough the progress of painting.

i really havnt used a paint bush on this model and did ot all with my airbrush, really loving the way how fast you can paint with that thing :P

Droppod is finally done! i decided not to weather the yellow parts. after giving it a go which looked a bit too weathered and just out right horrible. So i had to repaint all the yellow parts god bless masking tape and some patience!

With the second Wolf guard done i cant wait to get to the next one. Finally my force is coming together one model at a time.
you might wonder "why the hell is that guy painting his models one at a time??" well the question is pretty simple and has 2 reasons

1. since its a relative small force -just around 60 or so- i can spend time on my mini's instead of just slapping some paint on them and get my force done in about 3 weeks time.

2. Painting is my therapy. No not kidding painting keeps me in check giving me a way to relax my overcrowded head.

in the end i hope to have a -finaaly- good enough painted force that im happy about and can bring to battles. for now i leave you with some pics of my second wolfguard.

3rd Wolf Guard done in just a day! im really happy about that since it seems that finally im getting the hang of the scheme.
as you might notice this one is a bit different then the previous ones i made, holding the combi bolter with two arms. and getting ready to fire, i wanted a few member is the squad to look like that.

I also did a minor conversion on the backpack and added some close combat weapons to it. after all a space wolf cant leave the fang without them!

#3 (the missile launcher guy ) uses a head of a scout which really sits nicely on the marine torso using just a bit of greenstuff.

A good thing about taking commissions is that it allows me to make expansions on my army and not to mention to save up some cash for my FW thunderhawk

With the drop pod done for the Long Fangs squad thats one less squad to paint. as always i really enjoyed painting something else then a marine and drop pods give me a nice " break" regarding my own army. i guess you can see them as some kind of reward....

For the pod i basically used the same techniques as with my first one (the youtube tutorial of buypainted) and really like the speed you can paint one up in a short amount of time.

i have decided to already "upgrade" my army to another 1000 points but since im running out of organisation slots i decided that i needed to use a new one. the new additions will give me a staggering 11 drop pods (yes i REALLY love them)

Ive been rather busy the past few days finishing not just one model but 3 in a row!
i really want to make my army complete asap so i can expand it to the next step the 3000 points mark.
After that im adding in a scratchbuild thunderhawk or 2 storm eagles (depends on getting templates for the eagles)

On another bright note: i got meself a FW venerable space wolves dreadnought so i can dump my old one to my daughter who really want to paint up a " robot ".

Finished the last 2 models of drop pod unit #5 today. So i only have the drop pod left to do.
i Really enjoyed my new way of painting. Doing all the legs first and then moving on to the individual models.
Since normally i bail on a project after painting the amount of models i did i have to make a small note: im not bailing on these.

Hey guys and galls im back after a short break in which we had to remodel the house which meant my paint desk needed to move to storage for a bit. After finishing the house my wife decided i could not return to my old spot in the living room and gave me a nice new spot near the window (im so happy real daylight!!!!!!!)

After cracking down the drop pod for my last squad (pics will follow) i decided to start working on the first drop pod in my list

so this is my project for the upcoming week:

I really wanted to start with my grey hunter with mark of the wulfen, mainly because i had a really cool idea for him with a pretty nifty small conversion. The model is done now so here are some pics.

as you can see the model is lunging forward bringing some real movement to the squad.
Also the model is the first model i applied chipping of the armor to. I tried this is the past to several other models but they always came out funky looking, better yet they looked they where painted by a 3 year old. another cool thing about this models are ... his bare arms. im not telling what arms are used.... you may guess it!

Tho i sold this army a few weeks ago. the guy who bought it commissioned me to finish it and he already added some FW stuff extra to it. as a first part he commissioned me to paint his contemptor dread armed with claws and dual flamers.
