Arise ye nation of shop keepers! For the french are coming!

For the first time since 1797 at the invasion of fishguard the french have landed.

Initial estimations put their forces in low numbers a mere 200 soldiers, 43 vehicles, four helicopters, two landing craft and a catamaran. With naval support in the area.

A French navy spokeswoman described the first steps of "Mission Jeanne d'Arc" as "unique". It seems that their initial goal is a successful assault on Browndown.

By Lord Harry and for St. George let us repel this invaders

This is an outrage.
How dare they besmirch these fair shores with their presence.

They must be repelled!

Aww man. Gosport is going to be all smelly and continental now.

It'll be streets paved with croissants and massive cowardice. And a cup of poofy French coffee instead of a nice pot of tea.

Tsk.

Look to your longbows men! With this and those rebellious Welsh to deal with, it's a good weekend to be an Englishman!

The governments compensating the soldiers and civil servants. But does it stretch to their dependants? It's a worse day to be an ex-pat...

If they are ex-pats then they could have been avoiding paying any tax in this country and if they were retired still draw down a state pension, so yeah. Food for thought.

True, but on the otherhand a lot retire abroad after working here for their working lives.

So why doesn't Cyprus defend their assests? After all they are current Cypriot tax payers...

Well they're the one taxing them aren't they?

Yes, but the issue is that they use the Cypriot systems and services, e.g. they don't use an NHS dentist or GP, drive on our roads or use any other system that their tax would have helped fund so why should they then get this service rendered to them? (That is the dependants and ex-pats, the soliders and other personel who are "stationed" over there I totally see the reason for)

I'd suggest the dependants are only there as they've gone with their partner who is a soldier/civil-servant
And people who have retired there already cost us less as they aren't using the services here...

The context was that particular pair owned and ran a public house and on Saturday nights after the tills were emptied there was no where to store teh money as it couldn't be banked and they didn't have a safe so put the till earnings in the hen house, hens make a terrific raquet when disturbed.
