Waving flag of ignorance here, why is threadromancy considered to be such poor net-manners?
I don't mean simple bumping or requests for further info - but if there is a developed thread that could be added to is it not neater and more efficient to do so rather than create a new thread linking the previous one?

Its not. Its generally a good thing that people aren't making hundreds of posts to ask the same question.

Its always just amusing when someone reposts something that doesn't add to a thread thats been dead for 4 years

Pretty much.

Depends on the subject too. Unique stuff? Have a quick search. If it's more than a few months old, start afresh.

That's the bit I don't get - if it's more than a few months old, yet relevant, why start afresh?

I don't know. I think that you should add it to an existing thread.
Though some threads can get quite wayward from their original topic.

It's certainly better than the 1000th variation of can space marines have sex <- that ones probably locked

Its usually because its a rules discussion or something that been discussed to death 5 years ago.

And someone creates a new account and makes their only post on it saying somehting like "I agree"

And will you resurrect this thread in five years' time just to do it again?
