From here (http://www.zattikka.com/press/zattikka-signs-digital-publishing-agreement-games-workshop%C2%AE).

Zattikka, the digital games entertainment group, is pleased to announce it has signed a license agreement with Games Workshop®, the UK quoted specialist of fantasy tabletop miniatures, games and novels, to develop tactical, 3D isometric, free to play games based on the gigantic city leveling Titans from their world renowned Warhammer® 40,000® universe.

I'd be more excited if I had ever heard of Zattikka and whether or not they have a track record of delivering quality games.

Quick google search turns up their website.

Very little there except for a few mobile and app games.

I expect Imperium on Chaos titans, no Eldar or Tau

If it is an tablet-based game based on the epic ruleset it could be awesome

Hex-based game like the old battle for armageddon board game, that would be fun :)

Or rebrand Mechwarrior as Titanwarrior ;)

it'll be hex based, and we'll never see it on a proper computer.

Based on the website it'll either be a facebook game, or a phone game. Maybe Tablet

Yeah, i'd expect, given their history, turn based battles with in-app purchases for weapons and energy and new titans, shame.

Well we all know GW never let's games companies make crap 40k games.

Well they have been doing fairly well recently. The Dawn of War series was a huge success and Space Marine was very successful as well. Not particularly hopeful about this one but one can hardly argue that there is a precedent for it to be terrible.

Well there was DoWII....

Remove the II and replace it with Soulstorm.

DoWII is really good in my opinion.

DoWII was okay not great, Chaos Rising was a marked step up though.

Soulstorm suffered for 3 reasons;

The fliers were shockingly poorly implemented
The "souls" mechanic was crow barred in, and didn't make much sense
Whe you defended a territory you had to rebuild EVERYTHING every time. In Dark Crusade, if defending, your base was still there.

I loved Dark Crusade. I loved DoW2, for all its faults and problems (mostly with my laptop). Never played Chaos rising. Space Marine was great. Killteam, the XBL Arcade game was good fun

There was a game on the DS and PSP....combat squad? Squad command? That was terrible

But with Dark Crusade, if you then built a base/turrets where the enemy spawned you could wipe them out without really having to do anything. So a balance would need to be struck

True. But to me it just got boring rebuilding the same base, over and over again every "turn" for ages.

A better balenced would have been not have to rebuild in the starting area, but destroying all other buildings

I've never played a bad Warhammer 40000 game to be honest, or indeed a bad Warhammer Fantasy game, and I've played a wide range; I really like all of the Dawn of War games (I actually prefer two oddly), Space Marine was good, and that Warhammer: Mark of Chaos game was enjoyable, if uninspiring compared to Medieval 2.

Free to play is pretty much a nail in the coffin for me, that whole model holds no interest to me and I consider it more or less a legal scam. GW is stupid to connect themselves to somehing like this.

Couldn't someone just Mod mech warrior? Because that's what it will be, on a much larger scale.

You would be surprised at how popular Free to Play is, it isn't a silly decision by GW whatsoever. Just look at how Planetside 2, LOTRO and many other F2P games are doing. For what looks like a mobile game, it's not a bad choice at all.

Mech Commander would be better.

Planetside 2 probably cost more to make than GW make in a year though...

I used to feel the same way, then I realised it is an archaic outlook. F2P with micro transactions is the future. So long as it isn't pay to win it's fine. Much more flexible. I absolutely love what SWTOR has done with it, the in-game market has some fantastic cosmetic items on it.

In no way is it a scam. You get access to some basic service and you have to pay for extras, no different from innumerable other hobbies.

Which is why they license their properties and get paid royalties. Space Marine probably cost as much to develop as GW makes in a quarter or perhaps more after all.

This, so many online free to play games are pay to win. Worst still are the free to play games where you have to pay to get past level X or to achieve a goal.
