What do you guys think is the least used army in 40k?

I want to start collecting an army and im thinking it might be best to go with the least used one.

Thanks for any replies :)

Tau, Sisters of Battle, Eldar...

I'm guessing sisters. I love me some Orders Militant, but they're still super expensive old models in a faction that is not built for low body counts with rules that even their partisans (like me) find merely functional.

Looking at my gaming group it would be sisters as no one has an army of them, well the one guy does but it doesn't count as he has at least a 2500pt army of every race..

Until they are either converted to Finecast or get a new plastic army then im not going to go near Sisters.

Any other ideas for least used except for Sisters?

Don't really think Tau or Eldar are least used...

EDIT:

Can be your personal experience, knowledge from tournies etc

It is all quit situational, for instane in my gamer group I am the only Space Marine player.

I would probably suggest that there is a relationship between how frequently they are used and the newness of their codex, so I would suggest that Black Templars are quite rare, (tau get a bit of an upswing based on rumours..)

True, im just trying to think of something different to do.

There's a kid who plays IG but hasn't been for a while, two guys that play Nids and i know id do a better job of writing an army list and painting the models, Im the only guy who has a BT army, one guy has SoB but rarely plays them, several GK players who play other armies, an Eldar player, various Space Marine armies, one guy has SW, another has Dark Eldar, same with Dark Angels, a Tau player who if you play him you'll be lucky to get to the end of turn 3 after 2 hours, i play Necrons, there's a guy with Flesh Tearers, several have CSM armies and a few have just bought Daemon, last but not least there's a guy with Orks who rarely turns up but im not in the mood for doing Orks.

As you can see it's a bit of a dilemma, i have done various armies before and i know some of the others i can do a lot better than those currently playing them. Just can't decide what i want to do.

EDIT:

I've narrowed it down to Tyranids, Imperial Guard, Grey Knights, Tau/Eldar but would rather have the new codex and maybe one or two others.

my only games of 6th have been against IG and Sisters..... so as far as I am currently concerned they are the most common!

Is there a preference? CC oriented or shooty? Xenos?

Would definitely be Sisters in my local area.

Unfortuneatly i like all three, hence my problem :(

I think you should do something niche in terms of presentation. Such as a Genestealer cult, using mebbe counts as daemons and IG allies for purestrain and levels 1-4. Or possibly a Rogue Trader's personnel retinue using GK codexs - coteaz and henchmen, no PA/TDA GK or things like that.

'Stealer-Ork Hybrid army counts-as Imperial Guard!

Boom and we are done :)

Id like to do a Inquisitor/hencemen army but i don't want to use Coteaz. Problem is while i 'can' do that if i were to take the army to ToS then id have to redo it.

Id like to do a themed army regardless of which one it is, just need to decide on which army - hell im happy doing Space Marines as i keep going back to them. Just need to work on an idea on what theme i could use.

An Infantry company of imperial guard?

RGilbert26

I've done that in the past, lost interest in playing it.

I need to get out of the habbit of buying army lists and just collect one army and have it build up.

Have you considered expanding a space marine army to a full company?

RGilbert26
03-06-2013, 04:59 AM
No I've never done that.

Any suggestions for themes?

You'd probably want a battle company. All the others are a bit more specialised.

Wolfshade

Perhaps a battle company from a story, so you could have them on campaign against orks on a dessert world, so perhaps have space marines in dessert cammo (Shocking I know, but an ancient WD had a BA in dessert cammo on the front cover). Adorn the banners with Ork battle honours.

Or snow + tryanids al a tyranic veterans

Or tau and industrialised world

I'm just working on my BA 3rd company, set just before Armageddon II.

Funnily enough i keep thinking about doing Blood Angels.

Just got to decide which battle company and what theme.

EDIT:

Well i found a great thread on Warseer regarding a guy who's making the second company of Blood Angels, decided to copy the way he's done the Command Squad - so ive just ordered the Finecast priest, Masters of the Chapter, Power Fist Chaplain and Librarian with staff and book from GW over the phone. Went with priority shipping so hopefully i was just in time for it to arrive tomorrow, will get a BA Battleforce tomorrow when im at the store for gaming night.

Here's the link to the Warseer thread - http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?226641-Full-Blood-Angels-2nd-Company-by-ilikebmxbikes

The guy's thread is great for inspiration and when i start all this off tomorrow im going to have a thread going too, give praise to his work and thanks for the great thread - plus i think i'll rename my blog and update it with the thread.

EDIT:

I'm going to Warhammer World in April as a birthday treat, so I've been trying to figure out what on earth I'm going to buy once im there. Finally managed to decide that it'll be BA stuff for vehicles, Terminator pads, probably a dread and a few other bits.

EDIT 2:

While looking at the thread; the guy mentions that a picture was taken with his iphone, noticing how clear the picture was i quickly took a picture with my ipad and noticed that while it's a pain in the arse to steady, i might be able to get some really good pictures with it instead of using my Mum's digital camera. So hopefully this means i will have some great pictures from now on :)

The only sticking point is getting enough natural light, i do have a white light lamp so perhaps that'll do.

The problem I have found is that I take the photo graphs too close to the model, it is better further away.

Black Templars...Can't recall seeing one being fielded in the last 2.5 years.

space wolves, no one plays those guys

Around my area, definitely Sisters, there's no one who even owns an army. There's a 2-3 people each who own BT and Tau armies, though they don't often play them. I'm the only person who plays Eldar or Dark Eldar, though one other guy owns a small army of each.

Always best to find the least used in your particular game group.
We only have 1 Space Marine player in our group, and he's being transferred next month.
Other than that, we have all of the races represented...even Sisters! I'm our local Sister player and won our first league with them (8-1). I also often place in the top 3 at tournaments with them. I feel Sisters got a huge buff in 6th edition and I play them instead of my Eldar now. Though they are very expensive, luckily I still had a large force from my 2nd edition days. On a side note, I prefer metal to plastic every day of the week! Much easier and faster to clean up flash and get to the painting!

Right now CSM and Daemons are the most used followed by Eldar and Necrons.

This can also change rapidly as peeps move or switch armies. I'd say go with the models you are most interested in painting!

Gotta say, I got smashed by sisters at a local mini tournament. Celestine is nails now.

Yup! Since her Fearless transfers to the Seraphim and their Hit and Run transfers to St. Celestine=muahahahahaha
