Non-spoiler review:
My copy of Andy Chambers The Masque of Vyle arrived yesterday. I decided to read half of it before bed. I read all of it. It is a really excellent book with a lot more substance than in its slim hardback form would indicate. Mr chambers tells a tightly packed, gripping story in this book, centred around a Harlequin troupe and their Solitaire, Motley. The same Motley who appears in Mr Chambers Dark Eldar Path series, for those who've read them. That's him in the cover, looking fly.
The story is basically a (mass) murder mystery as the troupe of Harlequins & Motley try to discover who amongst three likely possibilities was responsible for the destruction of a (very) minor hitherto unknown Craftworld. The pace moves along snappily without seeming rushed and it gives great (if not profound) insights into both the Harlequins and Dark Eldar. It isn't exactly action-packed but what action there is is extremely well written and entirely befitting of the Harlequins.
Four and a half Harlequins Kisses out of Five.
Spoilers (not many really):
At the start of the book there is an skirmish between a few of the Troupe and some corrupted wraith constructs, the harlequins are so fantastic they manage to improvisation-ally choreograph their battles in character.
The Shadowseer uses her hallucinogenic grenade launcher (creidann) to enhance their performances as well as in battle. Not a major spoiler but nifty.
This book answers the question every Dark Eldar player desperately asks; 'From whence does Commoragh get its protein'.:p
Solitaires eat souls.
