This is my second post of a request for help. The first post was riddled with typos (lesson learned not to make a huge post via mobile phone).

I'm trying to be more proactive in my local gaming community by running a campaign. I'm working with my local store to do a 3 month build and paint escalation campaign. The concept is that you build a certain amount of points for a new army paint it and play several games in a month. The next month the point limit is raised and the last month same thing. By the end you have a 2500 point painted army. I'm looking to have points involved by those who make the deadlines as well as other bonuses. The first month I was thinking of having the limit be 500 points to keep it simple and fun. At the end of the month do a mega battle order vs destruction sort of deal. I would like to make that fun and interesting but not sure how. Anyone who has experience in this sort of thing will to give some advice and good ideas would be extremely helpful. Thank you

This is an escalation league and we used to run them all the time when I worked for GW.

Starting with 500 points is a great starting point since most of the battle forces are only missing an HQ and upgrades that would bring them to 500.

The only problem I see is the three month period. By uping the points every month to 2500 pts, you would have to increase the army 1000 pts each month (500 + 1000 + 1000 = 2500pts) and would have to apply to everyone. 1000 points of new models could be a little overwhelming for some people, especially if they are new or doing horde armies. And by given additional points to those who do make deadlines could be seen as a punishment by some (I get to paint how many extra models because I won?)

If you think the new players can handle, keep the point increase. For those who make their deadlines, give them rewards they can use. Maybe a free bastion or Aegis line that doesn't count towards their point limit.

At GW we liked handing out the "re-roll" cards to those who finished on time. They basically were cards that you could redeem during a game for a free re-roll on anything: shooting, move, leadership, etc. And it doesn't have to be just one card, it could be several. However many you feel will be a reward but not an unfair advantage.

Hope some of these ideas will help you out.
At the end, everyone who initially signed up should play in a big mega-battle, whether there stuff is finished or not. It still gives everyone a chance to play with what they've got and it helps everyone show off their models to everyone else.

They are great fun for campaigns!

In terms of Fantasy, they are particularly apt, due to the army restrictions being percentage based, rather than the 40k approach. Thus, whilst it may seem 500 points is a big jump, it's potentially one particularly hard unit, though the amount require will vary wildly between armies (500 points of Gobbos stings the wallet more than equivalent in Ogre Bulls). I think 250 is a more reasonable increment, depending of course entirely on the average disposable income for your participants.

250 is literally say, a couple of cannon, a single big gribbly, or a single well equipped unit of infantry of middling size. The percentages should keep things in check nicely, as will the other limits.

Either way, just make sure everyone has fun doing it!
