In what has to be the most embarrassing case of 'failing to research your guests in the world ever', an American TV reporter (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/feb/26/mo-farah-run-before) has asked the record breaking winner of the New Orleans half marathon if he had ever run before. The winner was Mo Farah. Double Olympic champion Mo Farah. The poor guy was clearly dumbstruck but very polite in spite of the fact his interviewer was clearly a clueless idiot.

I suppose she *could* have meant have you run a half marathon before. But very badly phrased.
Also, we now need to refer to marathons as snickers...

95%+ of reporters here aren't hired for their ability to do anything but look good on camera.

Or in the case of The Daily Mail, their ability to spew bile, bigotry, misinformation and hatred to fuel middle England's persecution complex!

You're being too generous. She clearly had no idea who he was. I can forgive her not knowing that (I couldn't tell you any of the American winners of events in the Olympics), but even a basic Google search to see if he had won any races before would have told you who he was. Appropriately enough if you Google Mo Farah now, the top result is now this story.
