So I had the idea to put a DA company squad in a drop pod, 10 dudes, 5 with combi-flamers, 5 with combi-meltas.

Inertial guidance means that I should be able to put the drop pod right in my opponents grill, or at leas close enough to use my flamers or meltas.

If its infantry im after, 5 flamers should make short work of them. if its a vehicle, 5 meltas have a pretty good chance of wasting even a land-raider. the ensuing assault from any occupants/ surrounding infantry should be mitigated my the 5 D3 overwatch wounds from the flamers.

After that they may be able to contest an objective, but their job is done.

Also, the Drop pod is equipped with a Deathwind launcher, so it starts throwing pie plates at turn two, and its also equipped with a locator beacon, so a turn two deathwing assault should give my opponent something else to think about

I already ordered 10 combi-weapons from chapterhouse. weeeeeee

This kind of tactic can totally work. The only danger is that it's a lot of points to throw away. If you get unlucky, or your opponent manages to deny you a target (or floods the field with too many targets), you're screwed. Your vets will simply die without leaving a sufficient dent, taking their points with them.

That said, it's a valid tactic. You're playing balls-out and taking risks, but don't expect it to pay off every time.

go big or go home, right?

it should be noted that most of my local FLGS players are some variant of Space Marine.

Or, perhaps combat squad? Melta the Land Raider and flame the heck out of whoever was inside.

I was thinking about that, but I think that the squad will be more resilient as a 10 man unit.

multi-flamers?? Something tells me you mean combi-flamers. And here's my only caveat to your tactic. You only get one shot. either you land and hit with combi flamers and/or melts. Or you land allow yourself to get shot up and then assaulted and try to use whatever flamers you have left to hopefully hurt your assaulters. A compatent oppenent would leave you feeling a lil upset that you spent the points and money to build this squad only to get it butchered repeatedly when it deploys. All in all the you do have a chance to kill one thing with this squad. You just gotta choose what it's worth. A land radier or an infantry squad?

I made further changes to this already 'spensive squad. Meltabombs, all of them so that perhaps they can take out a second vehicle if they survive a full turn of shooting and assault. I also replaced two of the combi weapons with a flamer and meltagun so that they can stay up to their old tricks.

I realize that it is unlikely that they will survive past a turn, but they are not a scoring unit and I think that the knee-jerk "KILL IT KILL IT" reaction from my opponent might spare the rest of my army some grief.
