Hiya,

Not sure if this is in the right place on the forum but there is currently a poll to get the planet Pluto's smallest moon named and one of the choices is Erebus.

Black Library have announced that if 40K fans can get the moon named Erebus it will feature in one of the Horus Heresy novels and will be destroyed.

There's a hint he might be on it at the time..... :)

Here is the link for the poll:

And here is the Black Library Facebook announcement:

We are however facing pretty stiff competition from Star Trek fans as one of the options is Vulcan, so let's get voting....

You can cast multiple votes but only one per day.

Sounds like a laugh so I cast my vote for Erebus and also Thanatos (name of the of the coolest and most evil Immortals from the old D&D Mystara setting).

Also the name of the best (At one point - not sure if its the same) Carrier in EVE online. :P

The Thanatos (Gallente) sucked last time I checked. Beaten out by the Chimera (Caldari). I haven't played for a long while but most people would go for any carrier. There really wasn't that much of a difference to those who can't fly them. On a separate yet related note, Erebus is the Gallente Titan on EVE. The One at the bottom. Also the Second from the top is called the Avatar, from Amarr, and they have and Worship an Emperor. Though I think the Emperor is female.

I voted for Erebus.

But after looking at the tally there's not much chance for it to win. There are close to 20K votes for Erebus and more than 60K from the Trekkies (Vulcan).

If you really hated to be pedantic, you wouldn't have said anything.

Out of interest, have you put this in any other 40K site?

Heya Renegade,

I have put the links on Warseer and Dakka Dakka, just thought it would be fun to see how many 40K fans would go for this but looking at the results so far the Trekkies have it which is a shame.

They're naming 2 new moons, so maybe we'll get Erebus and Vulkan?

I love to be pedantic, Pluto was never a planet as there was no classification for what a "planet" was. Suffice to say when Pluto was discovered it was neither where they expected nor as big as the expected it, in fact what they found didn't match their predictions by a long way...

i must admit that i voted for Vulcan. I had to! Star Trek was with me before GW was and let's face it- naming it Vulcan is only logical!

My concern with Vulcan, it has already been used for a solar system body.

It was hypotheisied to exist between the Sun and Mercury in order to explain some parts of Mercury's orbit. The theory was that it could not be spotted as it was so close to the sun that it couldn't be spotted at sunset, indeed like how Mercury can only be spotted at its furthers points.

IIRC one astronomer claimed to have observed it directly, what they actually saw or thought they saw was unknown. Some have argued it was merely a sunspot.
