So here's an exciting new idea (http://www.blacklibrary.com/exclusive-products/shadows-over-sylvania.html) from the good folks over at BL. The Path to Adventure books venture into the Warhammer World and do so in style. Who wouldn't want to play as a vampire. By the look of it you can choose your bloodline and it's also set in a historical period to add another interesting slant to it.

I had the email and I was hoping for a "Choose-your-own-adventure" book then I realised it was true! I was excited!

I haven't played any of the others and haven't heard much about whether they are any good, which is the only reason I haven't stumped up my cash already.

I've got the two 40k ones, and they're kinda on the mediocre side. Hive of the Dead is quite linear, and the Space Hulk one has lots of aimless wandering in circles looking for the right item. Both books really suffer in that for every combat encounter their is a paragraph describing your death if you lose, so keeping to the ~400 paragraph standard there are some 30 odd wasted ones, so the books come off feeling short compared to the better Fighting Fantasy.
The combat system is also terrible and needlessly complex, with 2D6, ranges, multipliers and so on. Coupling the excessive bookkeeping with the larger A5 type paperback makes them not very good for a bit of fun during travel or whatnot.

Now, I'm being rather negative here, but that' possibly also due to the relatively high price of the books compared to a FF paperback.
