Hey guys, I've started up a new blog compiling all of my guides - including the Chaos Space Marines and Dark Angels Tactica articles featured on the BoLS front-page - and other hobby-related works.

I've actually collected Dark Eldar in the past, so that shouldn't be too difficult at all. May have to do some more crunching and dancing with the codex though, I don't think I have touched them in 6th unfortunately - though I have played against them quite a bit. I do know they are a very different beast in 6th Ed though.

Thank you :) Provided there isn't a new release in the next few weeks, the Necrons Tactica should be out by the end of the month. If Daemons are indeed getting released though, they'll probably have to wait until mid-March. We're still working out the dates and times though, so it may come out even earlier! Nailed the elites section perfectly. I field ymgarls (6-7 strong), zoey or pair, and single venom at low to medium point levels. I will be adding a doom in a pod when we get to 2k (tournament upcoming in May) and we get the extra slots.

Thanks! Funnily enough, even though I give them so much praise, the only Elite unit I have is the Doom of Malan'tai :( Still, it is awesome and I am trying to fit it in at 1500 points - which is difficult because of the army list I am running, and also no Hive Guard (WHY!? lol).

If all goes as planned, the Tyranid Troops section should be up today. I'll also be looking at how recent playtest rumours for Tau and Chaos Daemons interact with the current meta. As well, I'm looking at doing a High Elf Tactica (my first Fantasy one) in the coming weeks. Plus, you can also see my awesome power sword-head Hive Tyrant - painted deliciously by Mr Jax. Hey guys, just an update that if all goes according to plan the Troops section of the Tyranid Tactica will go live later today, as well as a few other hobby-related articles! Also, expect High Elves and Necrons to be getting their Tacticas up soon as well. I am also working on an article discussing Dark Eldar in 6th Edition, noting the significant changes from 5th and how to cope with the new rules.

Hey all, just a progress update; the Troops section should be up tonight, it has been delayed because I needed a bit of a break - rest assured, this is my most comprehensive Tactica by quite some margin!

It's really long man. If you're going to type that much, there's going to be stuff to cut from each section. Also, I would suggest breaking it up into bullet points, for each important point you make. It's just much easier to read.

Haha yeah that is a good idea, I guess I'm still stuck in essay mode lol. I'll keep that in mind for the next one, though generally speaking my Tactica articles are usually a third or at least half the size of that one. Cheers.

I didn't read it all, but only because I am looking at an all Nurgle army. I really enjoyed the Plaguebearer and Nurglings section of your article as these guys will obviously feature heavily in my eventual army.

I think what I like about the new chaos book is that it looks fun to play, and the Nurgle stuff has always been fun to paint. I can also blame those fickle gods of chaos when I lose and not my playing skill :)

I really enjoy you and your friends blog, its good without taking the hobby too seriously which many blogs tend to get.

Thank you :) That is good to hear, and when you get the chance, I would love to hear how your Nurgle army goes :D I am very interested in seeing how different mono-god builds fare haha.
Yeah I definitely agree. From what I have tried it is a lot of fun, though I must say my only opponent so far has decried them as cheese - I used the Shrouded Soul Grinder in a ruin and the very popular Lord of Change build. Suffice it to say, they wrecked all kinds of face. Fun though! Haha yeah it is good to have something else to blame for a change, rather than just the 'codex op' or 'codex up' tropes.
Thanks again; yeah our motto is mostly to try and make anything work, even the Pyrovore and its ilk. I'm not there to say "it's bad, don't take it", I try to say instead "it might not be as good as 'X', but you can make it work by doing 'Y'". I love the models for Lictors for example, and I endeavour to use them in a way that benefits my army. Sometimes, as a hobbyist, the extra effort is all the more valuable :)

I have always had a massive soft spot for Tau and Daemons will have to wait awhile longer whilst I dust off my crisis suits and get ready to splurge on some Riptides ;) talking of which I hope your getting some rest because we will all expect a Tau codex review as good as your Daemon one, if not better lol.

Yeah as you say, I try to be as subjective as possible - I believe that every unit (even the Pyrovore) can be used in an effective way; given that this is a hobby and many of these units are bought because of the visual impression they leave upon hobbyists, I think it is unfair to write any single unit off completely. My motto has always been; "nothing's broken, anything can work with the right tools". Of course, I made that up on the spot but it pretty much is spot on with how I feel about games in general; whilst I think Bloodcrushers are quite fragile for their cost, for example, they work very well when joined by certain characters or used as 'beacons' for other units. Whilst I understand and appreciate other reviews, I just feel like I prefer subjective reviews when it comes to the hobby.
That's great to hear! And yes, I perfectly understand wanting to hold off because of the Tau - I am going through similar thoughts right now! On a side note, so is Mr Jax lol. Well, Tau were my second army ten or so years ago when I was a fresh pup to the hobby, so it will be a trip down memory lane considering them so heavily once more. I am really looking forward to it, and I hope I don't disappoint :) Thanks again!

They sure have, I've still got Necron and High Elf Tacticas that I promised earlier on in the wings :o And from all accounts (given how spot on Hastings has been with his release schedule) High Elves are going to be in the next White Dwarf, meaning I'm really going to have to sit down and put up. Unless I use the excuse of not being a good Fantasy player to dodge it, but given they are my only Fantasy army and I know their current book very well, I don't think I can afford to (or want to) skimp out on them. Hopefully Tyranids are at the start of next year or the end of this year.

Thank you very much :) I've been a bit on edge lately and haven't been putting up articles with the frequency I should have been - and the same can probably be said of Mr Jax for similar reasons - though I am hoping to finish the last main Chaos Daemons Tactica article tonight. After that, I'll be moving on to Necrons in the mean-time before the Tau release.

As far as Orks go, I haven't studied them too well in 6th Edition, but from memory - and on the advice of a seasoned Orks player in my local area - they do pretty well with a wide range of viable builds. Biker-heavy armies (standard Bikers or Nob Bikers) work pretty well if memory serves me correctly, as do Nob-heavy armies and the like, though I think you can reliably look at many of the 5th Edition or 4th Edition 'general army lists' and do just fine with some necessary tweaking. The Ork fliers are quite good for the cost too, so they aren't stumped in the anti-air department, and Lootas remain one of the better long-range units you can find. I may be wrong, as I haven't had too much of a chance to look through their codex in the context of 6th Edition, but I think they do pretty well overall.

That was my mistake, I meant to say the number of movement modification options - i.e. warp jump generator, swooping hawk wings, jetbike - all for a low cost.

Ah yes, that is one thing I have forgotten about (example builds). I will edit them in soon.
I actually don't have the money to get the Iyanden supplement myself, but one of my friends has offered to let me borrow it for a quick review. I'll put an update here or in one of my Tactica posts in regards to that, as I am not sure where that is at right now.

Just wizzed though it, playing particular attention to the wraithguard and blades. As much as I like the look of the blades, your article confirmed it for me that guard are the way to go for my troops. It's just a shame you can only fit 6 in a wave serpent, 5 if your taking Spiritseers too.

I think they are a decent unit, but you are handi-capped both by transport limits and just the sheer destructive firepower Wraithguard bring for the same cost. They make for an awesome bodyguard to a Spiritseer though.

Cheers mate, I always try to be as fair as possible when I write my reviews. I think playing so much with Tyranids has really expanded my view of units and how you can't look at them unless you consider their role in an army list; the Wraithknight screams "shoot me" like few other units in the game, for example. Its firepower and melee prowess are good, but the best reason to use it as a line-breaker/fire sink that you force your opponent to fire at. Using a Trygon in a similar role gave me a lot of perspective on using units mostly as distractions.

Hey guys! I shamelessly copied this post from my blog because I got a bit emotional about writing a message again lol.

This is very much an unusual kind of message for me to deliver, but I want to make sure you guys understand my - and our other writers - absence for an extended length of time. Essentially, at the start of August, I was admitted to my local public hospital for certain issues which I won't discuss publicly. I've been through their system and was transferred to the private system a week later, in which I have spent the last three weeks. Suffice it to say that I found my position as an author untenable due to stress and the demands of maintaining and improving my health.

With this in mind, I am going to be doing my best to gradually get back into the swing of things and hopefully put out the high quality articles you, our viewers, all deserve. I am amazed that the website continues to average around 500 views a day despite the lack of any activity whatsoever on the authoring front. To me, this is a sign that we have many loyal fans, and I can do nothing but repay that faith with what makes this website so popular - the Tactica series. With Space Marines just around the corner, I will be evaluating which Tactica to go through first; after all, Vampire Counts, Necrons and the Legion list were part of my back-log between new releases, so I may decide to leave them on the back-burner while I cover the largest release of 6th Edition yet. I promise that I will let all of you know what I decide to work on. I also feel it important to note that Mr Jax may very well be covering the Space Marines in his own fashion, but I make no promises as he has been very busy of late.

I'm very happy to be back home and I feel like I am nearly ready to bring you guys the articles you deserve. I hope to bring you at least one full Tactica series in the next month, and I may continue my experimentation throughout. As you may have noticed, the content and style of my works has evolved and changed between each release as I try to work out which kind of articles you guys like best. For example, my Eldar series involved heavy integration into fluff to make for cinematic and entertaining reviews of each unit, though compared to the Chaos Daemons Tactica, it involved less actual tactics. I am trying to find the best mix for the articles, and as the audience, how I proceed to structure them is entirely up to you guys. Which types of articles do you prefer; the less fluff-concerned and more tactic-concerned ones, or the opposite? Please let us know in the comments below, and just because I simply must;

I read your intro article and I liked it, as for how your going to go forward with the different chapter traits, that's a tough one.
If it were me I would likely go with a generic review of each unit, but under each unit review have a summarisation of how each different trait would effect that given unit. I think if you were going to go the other route you could effectively end up basically doing up to 6-7 tacticas which would overlap considerable and be a shed load of work for you.

As for my Iron Hands HQ build well this a build I like.
Chapter Master
Artificer Armor, Shield Eternal, Burning Blade, Meltabombs and Digital Lasers. Add in the chapter trait of "IWND" and I think he could be great (but expensive).
I like that MotF can also take relics too, could be really fluffy and fun.
