Pegasus Hobbies has a great line of stuff, especially their gothic. They also distribute items from a russian company called tehnelog under their own brand and those are great, albeit cheap plastic, for any 40k use. Check out http://pegasushobbies.net/catalog/Peg.-Gaming-Accessories/c2/index.html?osCsid=oontk06ur3t2i2lgajfld9fhi6.

I picked up some of the russian stuff from their Robogear game a few years back and loved it.

Many people are now being exposed to robogear and the pegasus hobbies stuff because hoardobits.com picked them up, but if you're hard core, I'd say just order the full sets from your FLGS (the robogear isn't readily available due to it not being wide spread, but you can get those on ebay for sure).

Also, the newer Dust Tactics expansions that have buildings in them are great values for the money when compared to some GW buildings.

The cool thing about them, is that they are all the same size, so you can use GW, Pegasus and Dust buildings together in the same structure with no problems.

Those non-GW ones are also snap together, so you can be building in just a few minutes with no glue.

With shipping costs going up significantly this month, I recommend you try your local store for them, and help keep them afloat before trying the internet.

ps, or you can go the ultra cheap route... foam-core board.

Fav terrain? The stuff I build myself :)
Though it can be an huge pain trying to get some decent texture on the walls of buildings.

My ultimate goal is to make a the area I live into a gaming board using OS maps. Obviously I'll 40k it up a bit so the houses will all be ruins. But that's the dream.

For scifi probably Pegasus though some of the laser cut mdf companies are getting very good. For fantasy without doubt Tabletop World.

If you don´t want to make it yourself, apart from Pegaso, you also have Gale Force Nine with their Battlefield in a Box:

Historical terrain, either Medieval for Warhammer or WW2 for 40k stuff, is fairly easy to get hold of. Less sci-fi, but still cool.

I wish this was around when Mordheim was released - http://www.warlordgames.com/store/bolt-action/terrain/ruined-hamlet.html

Come to think, I don't really see much if any good sci-fi terrain - I guess micro art studio's stuff they do for infinity is really really good, but there isnt really anything for properly alien planets, maybe I should do a terrain range myself eventually to counter this.

As already said above Pegasus terrain gothic buildings have much thicker wall sections and the bridge they do is awesome since it clips together you can buy more than one and make whatever size bridge you need.

Are you talking about the Pegasus techno bridge? If so you can pick them up on ebay for around £17.00 with P&P or Wayland games if you do not mind waiting until the end of time for about £15.00 I think

Also wonderland games does the gothic building large set for £24.99 works out cheaper than Wayland when you add P&P

Pegasus stuff is a little out of scale, but fun to build with.

I like Battlefield in a box as it comes pre-painted and is mainly resin. http://www.flamesofwar.com/gf9online_store.aspx?CategoryID=13336

If you do not mind building it yourself from a kit, then try CNC workshop miniature scenery. It is like Ikea for scale model wargaming Buildings. http://www.miniaturescenery.com/
