OK. in the DA codex is states that one terminator may carry a standard. then it states that one terminator may replace all his weapons with a halberd and be a champion.
can they be the same model?
If so, the champion/standard bearer can benefit from Look out sir if I am not mistaken, giving the standard some more longevity, potentially.

You can do this of course but when you upgrade to the champion that standard you just paid for is now replaced with a Halberd...
as it states replace all his weapons with a halberd...thus loosing the standard...

Yes, as I read the codex. Capitano's read would require a standard to be a weapon, and "banners and standards" are clearly listed outside the weapons section - nor do they fit the usual definition of "weapon."

Correct.

My interpretation is this. The unit entry has three types of models: DW Terminators, DW Apothecary. DW Champion. All three are different due to equipment and the DW Champion has a different stat-line. I think once he is upgraded to a Champion, he is no longer eligible to carry the banner, and indeed, how could he since the Halberd is listed as Two-Handed? Could you give him the banner first (so he is still a DW Terminator) and THEN upgrade him. I guess so, but that smacks of a loophole and I think it is shameful. I don't think it is intended for the Champion (whose job is killing) to be toting a banner too. With that being said, if you want to do it and we are playing against each other, I would be just fine with it. It is, after all, just a game intended for fun and I don't think that one item is going to tip the balance of fun, fair play!
