I have just made the jump back into 40k after taking mnay years off. Ive started to collect dark angels and would like some advice. I know the army lacks anti air but flyers are rare in my meta (except for that one necron cron air jerk that im sure every store has)

My list
HQ
Azrael
Ezikel hes far to awesome for 145pts not to take
Command squad 1 champion with blade of caliban and shield and 4x vets with plasma pistol power sword

all of this goes in a drop pod with a locator beacon to maximize the potential areas my termies come in

Troops
3x Ravenwing attack squad w/2x plasma gun
3x ravenwing attack squad w/2x plasma gun
5x deathwing terminators w/5x thunderhammer SS

Elites
5x deathwing knights.
Im taking these guys because space maries are the dominant army where I play and terminators have a strong presence so the one turn they use smite they will get to munch the opposing terminators who will either have thunderhammers and SS or wont have weapons that can crack termie armour so wont be a real threat.

Ok it might be paper thin but come on who can resist a s7 ap2 large blast? I know the vindi pumps out a s10 version but the ability to do 3 shots instead for when you need something dead and cant risk scatter

I think exchanging the command squad to a tactical squad would be in good order. Keep it cheap!
If you can, then squeeze in a Shroud. Your Land Speeder Vengeance will be very happy to have an escort.


If you are gunna go TH+SS on terminators, remember to take the Cyclone Launcher. You get split fire, and twin-linked on deep strike. Might as well use it!

Are you ok to stick two HQ choices in a droppod? You never used to be able to do that...

Otherwise I'd say that you might suffer to mobs. I've only played a few games with DA, but I suspect that your list will be sweet for cutting down marines or equivalents, but if someone brings tyranids, daemons or lots of ork boyz, you might struggle. At least a standard deathwing-heavy army has storm bolters, but with TH+SS, Knights, and a few members of the command squad are gunless :S

yeah. this list would bite it against hordes. Its a common problem I have too.

Im not terribly concerned with horde armies because they dont really have a presence at my store but I see your point. I am unaware of any restriction on how many HQs you could put in a drop pod but it has been a while since I played.

I think the drop pod can basically hold a single unit, but any characters attached to the unit come along too (space permitting). I think you're only allowed one Independent Character to join a unit at a time...but take all of that with a pinch of salt, as I don't have a book with me.

hmm if thats right then I will probably drop ezikiel and take a dread with an autocannon in a drop pod instead. It helps my lack of shooting aswell as giving me a model that is fairly difficult to kill in closecombat if they dont have a power weapon

Ive been going over my list and have relooked the company veterans and ive come up with this unit. I plan to stick azrael in the unit with the warlord trait that gives them furious charge. I took the plasma cannon just so I had something nasty to fire when they drop pod in. Do i still gain the extra melee attack in close combat if I take two guns instead of a close combat weapon and gun?

7 company veterans 231pts total
5x boltpistol/plasma pistol 1x plasma cannon 1x plasma gun

5 Command squad 235pts total
1x champion with blade of caliban and shield and 4x vets with plasma pistol power sword

Two pistols is still an extra melee attack, but a pistol and a non-pistol does not grant an extra melee attack. Technically what's going on there is all pistols are a close combat weapon by definition, but only pistols have that property. So two pistols is mechanically the same as two swords, whereas a pistol and non-pistol is one sword and one nothing.

you can have as many IC join as possible. You can even make a unit of just ICs if you wanted to.

Not sure about that second part - surely you can't have an IC join another IC?

99% sure you can have multiple IC join to make one unit or both join another unit.

Actually, yes you can. There are no restrictions on how many IC's can join a unit or join each other. In fact on Page 39 it says something similar to:They can join other IC's to form a powerful multi IC unit. It is the last sentence of the first paragraph.

I was originally going to run a vengeance but 140pts for an armor 10 vehicle seems like a bad idea. I dont have much anti tank so I was thinking 2 speeders with meltas which would be 120pts and with the 20pts saved I could grab a cyclone missle launcher on the termies. I could also swap out the plasmas on the bikes for meltas and with the 20pts I would save I would give the terminator squad a plasma cannon. Suggestions on what to spend my remaining points on would be appreciated. The list is 1352 atm.

Do that and you should be good. I personally think you are a little light on the troop choices but just be sure to clear out/contest other objectives and you should be fine.
