So I have posted on some lists that the rapier battery would be better then the vanquisher for tank hunting. I want to know other people's thoughts. I have included a link the the PDF for 6th edition. Imperial Guard Rapier Laser Battery (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/i/Imperial_Guard_Rapier.pdf)

I think that a twinlinked Lascannon with 2d6 (Take the highest) armor penetration is better then a 1 shot str8 ap2 2d6 armor penetration shot.
And the Rapier is only 40 points (46 for 2 crewman) versus the 155 for a vanquisher. Thus you could get 3 Rapier batteries for the price of 1 vanquisher, and still have points left over.

I couldn't agree more,
On the whole, the units is T7 (those pesky artillery rules) and it's must easy for that units to claim cover whether it is in area terrain or simply hiding behind something. The shorter range is a little discouraging but other than that it fills the anti tank role very nicely. It will defentily have an impact not only in your army list (being so cheap) but also on the table. (as enemy armour will stay out of it's threat range, or it will soak fire)

I had a friend I play against do the same thing with his thunderfire cannon, stuck it in some ruined buildings and I could never claim LOS to it perfectly always getting his cover save and he had the techmarine stand behind the gun so that the gun soaked up most of the incoming fire with its T7 3+ armor save.

I've been looking over the Forgeworld site and can't seem to find the Imperial Guard Rapier Laser Battery. There is a Rapier Laser Destroyer but this is a tracked vehicle and doesn't seem like it would be the same thing. Is it?

If you are talking about the model? then yes it's the GRAIA PATTERN RAPIER LASER DESTROYER. It is an artillery piece hence why its tracked. The rules for the model were linked above. Here (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/i/Imperial_Guard_Rapier.pdf) they are again.

Remember that it's NOT T7 once the enemy gets to close combat, it's the toughness of the crew as the artillery piece is ignored in melee.
