This list has a short life span for the amount of pain it will dish out. So here it is tell me what you think.

Ironclad dread with hurricane bolters and chain fist with melta gun and drop pod for 170.

This must be a good list then.

Multi-meltas on the Sternguard seem like an unhelpful choice especially since they are deep striking (meaning that they will be fired as snap shots that first turn they land, and i know you're re-rolling with Vulkan, but the odds aren't that great). Regular melta guns or heavy flamers would probably be a better choice since you've only got two drop podding units. I personally don't like Thunderfire cannons, but that's a personal preference and it looks like you're building a firebase with your two tac squads,Autocannon Dreads, and the Thunderfire. Other than that, i am not sure what i would i change

Like Kaijne said, the Multi-Meltas on your Sternguard aren't very effective. Decide what you want them to accomplish and then gear them out accordingly. Full combi-meltas for tank hunting, full combi-flamers for template fun, etc.

Kind of wondering where your HQ choices are going to go as well. In your tactical squads? Or is one going in the drop pod? Either way, their delivery system needs some work. That's a lot of points (310) for you not to get your points worth.

Also, you can't choose a Dreadnought as a Heavy Support choice in the Space Marine codex. As it is, your list is technically illegal. I get that you're going for a Dreadnought list, but if you want to move things around I'd remove the Sternguard (for your second Dreadnought, an Elites choice) and possibly add in a Devastator squad instead? If you're going for an infantry/Dread gunline, I'd consider adding some more infantry. You only have two Troops choices, so most smart opponents will just destroy those two tactical squads and deny you all your scoring units. Food for thought.

Actually he can take the dread in a heavy slot due to the the master of the forge.

I will agree that Multi-meltas are generally not going to perform as well as either meltaguns or plasma guns in your sternguard. The simple reason that they are so threatening generally means they get shot to pieces after dropping. Other than that I would swap maybe to multi-meltas in your tac squads just to get more use out of vulkans special rules. I would be interested to hear how dreads do in a 1500 point list (since teh interwebz says they are bad now).

Well my list did what I thought it forced my opponent to deal with my drop pod units first, landed the ironclad 7ins away from his GK Hq crow in the 1st.turn and turn him into a pile of red goo with my melta and bolters. His turn he took a hull point from my IC dread. By trun 2,I melted his dread with my strenguard. TFC slowed down his interceptors from moving for a turn. So my AC dread took a few guys from that squad. So you can see my dreads do good, oh and my ironclad lasted till turn 3, in fact he conceded at the top of turn 4. I got 6-0VPs. First blood, slay the warlord, line breaker and my objective. Hope that helps you Aegwymourn.
