They're old, old, metal Sentinels. Nice job making classic models blend seamlessly into your force! :D

That is an impressive army. You have really put lots of effort into this and it shows. I like how they are commanded by Colonel Lawrence... He wouldn't happen to be "of Arabia" would he?
Are all of the gaurdsmen old models? I can't help but wonder where you got all of the towelheads!
For themed and fluffy armies you get an A+!

Just commenting on your paint job. Very impressive. I always love to see a fully painted guard army! Great work!

Lawrence of Arabia? Damn straight!

Along with Paul the Astropath. :)

The fleet officer is new enough that I haven't decided on a catchy name for him yet. Any ideas? It needs to be properly pompous and condescending, while referencing a movie character in some way.

And yes, all of the guardsmen are old 2nd Edition Tallarn models. Except for Lawrence who's a conversion from a Forge World tank commander. I got most of these back in 1998-01 during the change-over to 3rd edition, but you can still buy them at ridiculous prices from the IG collectors section of the GW website. Though eBay is more reasonable if you're patient.

Thank you for posting these excellent photos! This is very inspiring work. There is plenty of theory and mathhammer on BOLS, but when someone commits to a list, builds buys and collects the models and does such a nice job with the painting and composition, it brightens my day. Thanks again, and have fun at the tournament!

i will have to agree thats a fantastic army. although it doesnt seem like much, i really like the display board (even though your army isnt correctly displayed). seems like it would help while preparing for a tourney or some such thing. i think there was an article about a checklist or some such thing here a month or two ago. anyways, two thumbs up for you!

True, it's really only a carry-board, to help move the models between tables. And it's still marked up for the old gun line army I was running prior to the new codex. But I'll at least get it painted before the next tourney. There were some very lovely display boards at this tourney, so I'll have to step it up a notch for next time.

Now that is awesome! Really like how you did the skin and then there's those awesome, old school sentinels.

Quality stuff. Very impressive.

Re: officer of the fleet, how about :

Colonel Brighton (featured in the film), Lawrence's British commanding officer in the desert who wants to absorb the arab forces into regualar British forces because they are not modern enough (scene in film where the arab horse are attacked by Turkish Bi-planes to great effect).

or

Air Marshal Sir Geoffrey Salmond, fits the bill - think he's in the officers' mess scene in the film when T.E.L is in arab garb and, in real life, 'he was responsible for providing air cooperation for General Jan Smuts's force in East Africa, for the forces in Salonika and Mesopotamia, for Allenby's conquest of Palestine' which was in issue during Lawrence's campaign.

or

Captain Sir Ross Smith (google paintings by W.B. McInnes) was a famous Allied pilot who supported Lawrence in the desert. The Australian Flying corps provided air support to Lawrence and the Light horse. -

Yeah, can't use Brighton. I've already named a Cadian medic after him that I sometimes use in the command squad. The TO and the other guys at the FLGS-Tourney aleady named him Admiral Ackbar (They're outflanking? It's a Trap!!!). So that'll probably stick no matter what I do. :|

And since the Astropath is named Muad 'Dib, I need the FO's name to be from a different movie anyway.

How about "Sir Bernard Proudfoot-Smith"

(looks it up) General Hospital? Who watches that?

Seriously makes me chuckle though. I'm imagining him trying to hide the ratling in his family tree. :)

"Smith, have you seen any Jerry spies?"
"Nien!"
"Nine? Blimey!"

Blackadder goes forth. All episodes started with a Rank (General Hospital, Private Plane, Major Star, Corporal Punishment etc.)
A Comedy series set during WW1.

Quick question about your 'movement tray' or 'carring your army between tables tray' Did you use foam board or card underneath the picture frame?

Ah, now I understand. Blame it on my Yank-ness. "General Hospital" is/was an American soap opera.

Heh, I just bought a picture frame, took out the fake family photo, glass, and the backing cardboard, stuck in some foam core board, and put the backing board back on.

I have always loved the idea of the Tallarns. I love the monochromatic colors. They look very good...especially the close up of your command.

It's "Bronzed Flesh" for the most part, a color GW doesn't make anymore. Whenever I find it somewhere I tend to buy all the bottles they have. Which reminds me of a funny story...

I was up in Novi, Michigan last year for a contract job, and I played some games at the Novi GW store. They had like 5 pots of Bronzed Flesh, and the manager was SO HAPPY to finally get rid of them.

I came back the next week and there were 5 more pots of Bronzed Flesh sitting in a bin on the counter. I asked the manager about them and he let out a long sigh. Seems that the GW stock system said "Oh! It's selling in Novi!" and shipped more Bronzed Flesh pots to him.

I let him keep them. :)

First off let me start by saying I hate guard, I always have, I could think of 1000 different things to do than paint a guard army. I dont think it will ever happen for me however...

...these models are simply fantastic and would make any 40k player proud to have! You did an outstanding job and your army is among the best looking armies that I have seen. If I were ever to do guard I would pick either Tallarn or Death Korp and you have set the standard for Tallarn that is for certain!

Congratulations, your work is awesome! Thank you for sharing it with us.

I go over it here on my blog (http://theback40k.blogspot.com/2009/07/pimpin-my-rides.html).

Lots of careful cutting and sanding. The sanding and joint filling is what really makes the conversions look clean.

Here's a shot of the backs:
