Hey,
Does anyone know how many different models there were in the first release of Eldar Rangers? It think it was in 1990. And maybe which White Dwarf they're in so I can find a pic.

Cheers,
Kispal

Six, I believe* and Collecting Citadel Miniatures (http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/Eldar(Warhammer_40,000_Rogue_Trader)_-_Collectors_Guide#Scouts) concurs. A few more sculpts came some years later in second edition.

*By which I mean to say, I have six and I have all of them that I'm aware of...

That's an amazing link, thanks I didn't know about it.

I'm humbled cos I was there at the start and bought what I thought was the whole set of *5* models, and what I find in my collection now are 5 from the original gen and 1 from the 2nd (of which I now see there were 3).

Right, off to e-Bay to find that missing 1990 chap then.

Thanks again!

http://www.solegends.com/citcat911/c2092eldarguardians-02.htm is the 1991 catalogue with the pic of the 6 Eldar Scouts at the bottom.

http://solegends.com/citcat1995-6/cat19956p057-02.htm is the 1995/96 catalogue with the pic of the 9 Eldar Scouts - the 6 original plus 3 new ones.

More great links, thanks! These are the pics I remember - although I obviously didn't remember them that accurately...

Well, those dates are the dates of the catalogues not of the releases. So your dates may be better.

Having those models makes me feel old, can not believe it is that long since I first bought my Eldar.

Me too.

I have all those models as well and I'm feeling quite a bit dated.

So dated that I just bought 10 new rangers to make me feel not so old :P

I wouldn't feel too old just yet!

They still sell those models.

Because he's too small for an avatar. Could make an Autarch, I suppose?

Which is what I am doing with him. He is far larger than another Eldar model so would make for a great Commander. Though you might need to fill in some of his armor since it not what you call smooth.

Having those models makes me feel old, can not believe it is that long since I first bought my Eldar.

Yup, 20 years ago for the majority and around 25 years ago when I got my first squad of of Eldar which I got for $9.99 for all ten fully metal one piece miniatures.

I do believe that I have all of those models except for the Ghosts. GW dropped them from the the list prior to when I picked up most of my Eldar.

But back then the Eldar didn't have any vehicles other than their jet bikes so you had to go Footdar.

Guardians were the main stays of the army but times change when you are dealing with GW.

But yes it was a very long time ago.

I find it really funny that the first Eldar model was actually a DARK Eldar model. Or a Dark Space Elf to be exact. Go figure.

I first saw that Dark Space Elf model on one of the yellow or orange advertising fliers they used to include with mail orders. I ordered 4 of them the minute I saw it but they must have disappeared instantly cos what I actually received was a note to say they were out of stock and 4 replacement figs: Imperial Guard jet-bike riders! I'm still confused over that one, 25 years later...

That was for the original Epic game. That was the half titan sized version. The Avatar shouldn't have been put in the basic game. He should be like the Primarchs.

Yea the Avatar has never been very 'God' like, although very usefull in the current codex since they beefed his save up while still keeping him cheap to field, never liked the whole young King sacrifice back story though, a little too chaotic for my taste.

Is he not one of the 2nd edition scouts? one of the current support weapon crew members has a similar La'forge style viewer.

coz they pulled all the epic scale models :) I can't wait till they pull the current one.

Back on topic(ish) so there are 12 rangers in all?

imperialpower

I would think there would be more than 12 now that there is a box of the finecast one's as well and that kneeling down observeing chap he is not one I recognise from the three man metal blister packs or whatever they were called.

So, using the links provided earlier in this thread, I think what we have are:

6 original Rangers:
http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/Eldar(Warhammer_40,000_Rogue_Trader)_-_Collectors_Guide#Scouts

3 additional models:
http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/Eldar_(Warhammer_40k_2nd_Edition)_-_Collectors_Guide#Scouts

Then a complete redo:
http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/Eldar_(Warhammer_40k_4th_Edition)_-_Collectors_Guide#Rangers

which included a special release:
http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/Eldar_(Warhammer_40k_4th_Edition)_-_Collectors_Guide#Limited_Edition_Figures

I think it's only figs from the 3rd link and also 3 from the first 2 links that are available (the GW page for the metal Rangers provided earlier in the thread doesn't say you get a random three from the 9, just that you can get these 3). So in terms of being available now from GW, I think we have 8 variations.

Off back to eBay!
