I have some questions on Falling Back and Sweeping Advances. I'll use a scenario to ask:

We have a 20 Ork Boy unit assault a veteran Space Marine Squad around an Objective in Difficult Terrain. The Orks lose the assault by suffering more unsaved wounds and thus take a morale check in which they fail.

So, they fall back. So do you do the 2D6 roll and actually fall the Ork unit back before the Space Marines decide if they will conduct a Sweeping Advance?

So let's say yes is the answer to the above and the Orks roll an 11 and the unit is moved back 11 inches.

The Space Marines decide they want blood and attempt Sweeping Advance which they get. Are they then moved the 11 inches and put in contact with the Orks which are then destroyed?

This actually happened this week in a game and may have made a difference because if the SMs had to actually move the 11 inches and the consolidate for 6 inches after winning the Sweeping Advance, they would have remained away from the Objective and outside of cover open to lots of fire from the enemy.

No. You first check to see if the Sweeping Advance is successful, and only if it is not (i.e., the losing unit escapes) do you actually move any models. As page 27 says: "If the falling back unit's total is higher, they break off from the combat successfully. Make a Fall Back move for the losing unit (see page 30). The winners can then Consolidate as detailed below;" and again, if the winning unit makes wins the Sweeping Advance check, "The destroyed unit is
immediately removed as casualties" (emphasis mine).

Thanks.

Assaults are now a very dangerous thing to do.

I just relaized we forgot "Mob Rule." The Orks were fearless and should have automatically passed the Morale Check for losing the assault, correct?

Depends how many Orks were left. If 11 or more, then yes.

17 went into the assualt, four died so 13 were left. It was near the end of the game and late, we were all tired.

This is a good lesson to get the Boyz squads up to 30 figures.

Yeah, I never go into battle without 29 other Boyz backing me up.

Do you remember to bring your Klaw & Pole too?
