Simple question can independent characters join a jetbike squad and thus have a jetbike or are they counted as vehicles and can not, also can they join a cavalry squad and be mounted on a horse like the rest of the squad or in both cases do they join but limit the squad to the movement of the independent character who remains on foot.

Cheers for any help

In both cases he limits the squad's movement, they will still be able to move their full distance but will be anchored to him by unit coherency.

Many can buy a bike or horse so then would not limit the movement. If they had a bike or horse though then they would be limited by a non mounted squad they joined.

I think in the sprit of the game if you want that independent character to join a squad then they are supposed to buy a mount to match the squad.

Neither jetbikes nor cavalry are vehicles, so ICs can join them. Of course, an IC joined to a jetbike or cavalry unit doesn't magically gain the option to buy a jetbike or horse if it didn't have that option already, so unit coherency will tend to slow the combined unit down.

The IC will definitely limit the movement of the jetbike/calvary squad. Oddly enough, ran into this case the other day. The opponent had the Relic marker and had a nearby IC join a Bike Troop Squad since the Relic Marker limits the Bike Troop squad to 6 inch movement. He took advantage of the majority 5 toughness of the bike squad and his IC's 2+ armor save.

Don't forget though, that in 6th edition (barring a special rule like the Relic), each model in the unit gets its own movement. The bikes can still move their full 12", they just have to stay in coherency with the IC. That limits their overall forward movement, but it can still be useful in some cases (such as a radical shift from left to right, or driving around difficult terrain).
