Hope everyone likes. I'll post more pictures as I paint more, but here are the first three models for my new Imperial Guard army.
Tell me what you think, I'm going to be incorporating more, different styles of wood-grain into the army, any suggestions on how to paint wood-grain would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any critiques and/or constructive criticisms.
Without further adieu (Sorry the photos are a bit blurry).

Nice job sir. Brave choice of army - expensive metal minis - but they look great. Your army is bound to get attention on the table top.

Nice job sir. Brave choice of army - expensive metal minis - but they look great. Your army is bound to get attention on the table top.
I actually got a really good deal on the miniatures. I was able to get my first 35 minis for less than 100 bucks off of a local hobby store that had gotten the minis in when they released, but never sold them. I was able to get the 25 man 'platoon squad' box which was 2 boxes of the metal vostroyans with special and heavy weapons included, and a 5 man command squad with an third heavy and extra special weapon in it as well. Plus an additional 10 man box with a heavy bolter and extra flamer guardsman for 25% off, on top of the 10% off that he gives for most GW products.
I picled up another squad worth of minis from a friend who got them for free from a games day he attended years ago and subsequently gifted to me to bolster my guard army.
I've only had to pay full price for about 20 minis all told. Compared to what I would have had to pay for them, I'm quite pleased.
Thank you for the kind words. I'm feeling a little daunted at painting wood grain, but hope to get better at it as I continue to paint them. The first mini is sort of a dark oak/mahogony style, the second is a birds-eye maple style as best I could paint it anyway.
If anyone has a suggestion on how to paint wood grain effectively, please do share it. I'd love to hear tips if I could get them.
More to come, till then, keep the constructive criticism coming please!

Your detailing is stellar. Always had a soft spot for the Vost as I am a big WWII buff, but the price has just been too restrictive. Sounds like you got them for a steal.
Open to a suggestion? Something I'd longed to do if they ever were set in poly instead of white metal. In lieu of run-of-the-mill Basilisks, try the Katyusha on for size (counts-as):

1:48 scale would be the appropriate size, in my opinion.
Like what you have thus far. Please update with progress.

Thank you for the complements Akkon, the details are what makes the models so unique and special in my eyes, as such I try to hit all of them and bring them out so they can be seen.
As for the rocket truck... that's an interesting idea.. I may just work on a basilisk modification with rockets, as I like the basilisk, but want something unique looking... thanks for the info on that.
I've got two plasma gunners on my paint desk based, and with their coats painted red. I'll start painting on them as soon as my weekend is over. Putting in 41 hours at work over 3 days tends to cut into the painting time a bit, ya know? :)
Do please keep the comments and critiques coming. I want to continue to improve my painting skill and hope to achieve that though tips and sugestions from the stellar painters who post here.
Thanks so much everyone, take care and more soon.
