I have not played 40k since 5th Edition and have been told by fellow gamers that 6th edition favours 'shooty' armies. That and the fact both I have never had a shooty army led me to collect a Necron army.

I haven't played any games yet as I am still assembling and painting by arm however this is what I am working towards:

Overlord with Res Orb, Warsytche, Phase Shifter
2 x Lord with Orb

5 x Praetorians w/ rod of covenant

2 x 10 Warriors
1 x 10 Immortals w/ tesla carbines

3 x Scarabs

I thought of creating a solid firing line for kill point games with the Praetorians ready to react to any unit that gets too close and putting a Lord in each squad of warriors and the overlord in with the immortals.

Objective games pretty much the same with squads advancing on objectives/keeping home objectives.

Criticism accepted!!

cheers

I would look at replacing the Praetorians with another unit. They have a 3= save and only 1 attack. Their point cost isn't as good as many other models. You really need more scarabs or add a spyder to the list. Actually the more the better when it comes to spyders. I would remove the phase shifter from the Overlord and use the points else where. Give him the weave instead. Any weapon that ignores the 2+ save goes after his int. any way. The warscythe will do the job. I would add a warscythe to each of the gen lords too. The res orb is a love hate war gear. I personally love it. There was too many times I rolled many fours and only one five. Don't for get that you can change to Praetorian models to be another type of necron models with very little work. The is many tutorials online on how to convert them. I hope this helps. Before you purchase too many other models I would visit this site for recommendations. The only I would give for now is look into Night/Doom Scythes and barges.

New to Necrons myself and about to pick some up.

1000pts is in the real of "fun lists" and I think yours works just fine.

As mojo pointed out though, the Praetorians are expensive and those points are better spent elsewhere.
