Sup all, I just purchased a few 1/8 by 1/32 rare earth magnets, My proposed questions are: Do you think these will work for standard arms for guard or space marines to swap out special weapons? Would it be possible to use them to swap out vehicle armaments? What size magnets do you use for your swaps (if you have them) and how do you go about making holes for the magnets?

Thanks all
Walrus

the 1/32 should be fine for infantry arms, though I know not why you would want to switch out infantry arms, it will be such a pain on the table. Anything larger than vehicles for 1/32 would just be too much for the magnet and will always droop.

the 1/8 should be pretty good for vehicles though, I think that is the size I use on my tyranid MC's and they stick on pretty well without drooping.

You could always use a pin or peg with the magnet to prevent droopage and stay with a static model.

I wouldn't be swapping them often, its simply so i can use this extra squad of guardsman i have to be totally special weapons. Like give them swappable gun arms so that i could have a Flamer in a squad if thats what i need, or a plasma gun, or a grenade launcher, etc... If I really had the funds I would just get another squad and make both into special weapons so I can use whatever I need.

I find that each person has their own preference for what type/size of magnet they use for different things. Personally I always go a bit larger for my stuff because I am constantly bumping them and rolling dice into them so if I go to small then the bitz are flying around. If you get them fairly cheap you can always experiment. Just make sure you do them all with the correct + and - sides for what you want to snap together. I flubbed my first crisis suit that way.

QFT.

Personally, I'd never magnetize anything smaller or cheaper than a crisis suit. I have extra marines. A heavy weapon is $5 on eBay. Magnetized infantry never looks good, the arms always shift in weird ways, and the models just aren't expensive enough to make it worth it.

Totally with EP on this one, in the end it is far better to just get new ones for infantry level. When you get bigger for things like crisis suits that are larger and have more options,t hen it makes a bit more sense.

Ya i Agree....However For Blood Angel players it would make sense to Magnetize there jump packs....Assault troops to Foot assault troops in Razorback\rhino\landraider is a nice change......

I used to agree, then I tried it... the magnetized jump packs look fine, but with the foot packs, they just look weird.
