I can't see this anywhere else on this forum.

Warhammer World is going to be displaying a lot more old models.

What do you think about old models? Are they relics to be prized or just old tat that is better forgotten?

I think it's a good thing and it's a shame that models have been lost, some of their old sculpts were quite good for the time while others were just blergh.

They don't look old, they look like the table top last game I played...

Ive seen some pictures from the WH tournaments and there's often old models amongst them, I generally don't use them as i hate metal.

I'm really please about this news. I forgot to say March was mentioned as when this might happen. I still love metal for single miniatures.

I've got a refurbished Rogue Trader land raider. It's the prize of my collection, and rapidly becoming famous and beloved at my FLGS. It's so cute! Like a little ball. With guns.

I regularly deploy RT miniatures that are older than my opponents... And anyway if they are so bad, why do a lot (looking at you RT deathguard) go for such obscene prices on Ebay?

I like them. It's nice to see the history!

As for using them in a game? I have no objection, as long as you mount them on the correct base size for the modern scale (don't have to rebase, just put their base onto the correct sized base. The extra height balances out, as models tend to be a bit bigger in the modern day).

I think GW stated (in their ToS rules) must be on based supplied. Hence old terminators on old bases. I'm pretty sure this was written.

I could see how this could be contentious for deepstriking - possibly- you will hit just as many with a pie plate with either size base. So beyond that, is there any advantage in the size of base?

Is H2H still based around base contact? you'd get more models in contact theoretically with the new terminators than the originals...

I love using old models, I've been working on tons of old stuff as Inquisitorial Henchmen, where the size differences don't stand out as much as they do in relation to marines and terminators. I haven't used old terminators recently, but there are some advantages and some disadvantages with the base size. More standard-base models can get in base-to-base with a 40mm current terminator base, so if you have standard bases on them, fewer models can get into base contact for assault, in theory, but the 2" rule partly balances that out. Mostly, the difference would come in with blast templates, where potentially more models could get tagged by a template, which is a disadvantage for the player with the small bases. In a friendly game, I wouldn't have an issue with it. At a tournament, you would need to have the current base size on it.

The biggest difference I think is the height of the old terminators, that leads to some places to hide...

The only reason I prefer the small bases is ease of transport!

i love the old stuff, sadly mot of my stuff was lost in various house moves and over zealous parental 'tidying'

but the army im currently throwing cash away at quite an alarming rate really, is RT era inspired with current models. mentor legion
my assault terms have 5 of the resin L claws (older edition recast in FC) as the plastic ones look APPALLING!
the 4 T hammers are the FW tartaros ones as they are like the originals.

my PA guys are all mk VI (in truth there is a grand total of 7 of them, waiting till new year for FW order), and i will be using umbra guns as they are the closest to RTB 01 guns.

i think more people should get their old guys out every now and then.
GW should do a few 'looking back' articles to cover the origins of the current lines. like chaos androids from space crusade being proto necrons, the true grey knights that cost an armys worth of points for one squad!
it will tie in nice with the FW hype of the HH going on.
