With Christmas rapidly approaching, a gaggle of my nerd friends and I got to talking about the important stuff - what is the nature of Santa, his elves and (especially) his reindeer. At one point someone mentioned that Santa's reindeer exist to some degree outside normal space-time.

Naturally that led to one inevitable question: Is Santa, his elves, his reindeer and all his various minions actually entities of the Warp?

It would certainly help with getting everything done in such a short time, what with time not being linear in the warp...maybe he's the nineteenth primach...

Santa is actually just a quantum wavefunction that is how he can deliever all the presents in one night but when you observe him you see him in one place, i.e. Santa's grotto at John Lewis

That's not Santa, it's just a stand-in filling in for him. Everyone knows he is busy sorting out all the presents during December.

As to the OP, it's perfectly obvious that Santa is a fantasy construct and as such belongs in the Warhammer universe, not the 40K one.

Which is, you know, totally free of entities of the Warp.

Absolutely. It has being from the Realm of Chaos which is a totally different thing. I'd also say Father Christmas is far too benevolent to come from either.

As more evidence of Santa being a being of chaos (warp, realm or whatever) I give you the following:

In several traditions, Santa does not come alone, and Christmas is not quite so benevolent. Santa arrives with Krampus in tow. Santa bestows blessings upon all "good children" (i.e. those who believe) while Krampus drags all the "bad children" off to either be eaten or drowned. Christmas, therefore, because an allegory for Judgement Day.

The old traditions died off too soon...

If you take out all the tinsel and holly off christmas and boil it down to it's very essence, it's really about bribery, judgment, and fear. Bribery because you're telling a kid that if he behaves in a certain way, he'll get what he want. Judgment because you're telling the kid that he will be punished (IE receive coal) if he doesn't behave the way you want, and fear because the poor kid's scared about receiving coal if he screws up.

But if you were a kid, you're poor and you're cold a lot, and got past the material wants, you would want to misbehave as a kid because you'll be warm on Christmas day.

Sorry, I thought you meant boiling a naked tree...

Arguably a lot of parenting comes down to bribery, judgement and fear. You encourage your children to behave in a particular way, when they perform very well you may give them a treat, if they misbehave you enact some form of judgement, grounding, smack or waterboarding depending on the nature of the misbehaviour and your own views.

If you take off the tinsel and holly off Christmas you are left with the non-commericial reason, the birth of Jesus who some see as the saviour of mankind.

well for starters, this isn't a parenting thread.

Two, jesus wasn't christian. And he was brown.

I once heard a comedian telling a joke about how most people have a picture in their heads of what Jesus looked like. Most think of the big one from the Bee Gees, Bee Gee Jesus. Where in actual fact he most likely looked like Danny De Vito.

All that fish, bread and wine ? You bet your *** he was lol.

I would describe myself as an atheist that enjoys the benefits of Christianity, C of E = Christmas and Easter :)

As for good old Saint Nick, the poem "'twas the night before Christmas" describes him as a Jolly old elf. So it's settled Santa is from middle earth or Narnia
