Good news (http://www.newstatesman.com/culture/2012/11/penny-and-pratchett)! Despite Sir Terry's deteriorating condition, he's given his blessing to his daughter carrying on the series after he is no longer able to write it. Not sure quite what she will bring to it, but I'm pleased his art will live on after his death. Also, the BBC doing a Guards Guards series? To borrow an EGism, SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Ahem.

It makes me very glad to hear this because I grew up reading the Discworld novels and they actually imparted a sense of humour to me, not to mention an appreciation for good books.
I have been lacking on my Discworld reading lately (in favour of living a life and balancing catching up on the WH40k) so I think I will take this as a cue to begin reading them again.
Last novel I read was Thud!

I never got into Pratchett, but I'm not sure it's good news.
Do they follow a single main storyline with re-curring characters?
Or are they stand alone novels in the same universe?
The first would be harder to continue right than the second...

That just made my day... Thanks, Wildey.

Amazing news, I'm so happy about this. Real shame about his condition - but I'm sure he'll be happy in whatever path he chooses to follow, and happy to know his legacy will live on long after he is gone.

The first would be harder to continue right than the second...A mixture, there's no main storyline, but there are many recurring central characters. There are a couple of one-off characters too.
Seeing as she's already an accomplished writer and his daughter, I'm pretty optimistic about her ability to continue the series. Tragic that such plans have had to be made at all, though.

This is both very sad and very good. Very good that Discworld will continue and that the BBC are making a Watch series (incidentally there were rumours that there would be a Watch series a la The Bill (but better) years ago) but so very sad it has come to this.:(

It made mine too, I knew other would feel the same!
It is sad, but we've known it was coming for few years. I'm pleased to see Pratchett taking his gradual demise with such bloody minded resistance. He has done a lot to increase funding for Alzheimers research and has done a fair bit to bring the right to die issue back to the fore.
