Hello all. Thought I'd post a new color scheme I'm testing out with my CSM now that we have a new codex. My old chaos forces were painted way back in 3rd and as time, and models have passed, I've become a far better painter. As only half of the army ever got painted, and most of that was honestly black primer anyways, I figured I should update them. So here are a few models that I have completed, and a WIP Termie.

Here is the Lightning claws chosen from DV, and my first attempt at painting lightning. I wish I could remember whos tutorial I followed, but I looked at a few.

Next is a shot of the Light. Claws marine next to my WIP termie. still have to paint his eyes, the trophy rack, bolter and some details.

This is the Chosen Chapion and the Lord. Not sure what I'm gonna run chosen as, since I'm not too fond of them, but I do love these models.

Lastly, a closeup of the lord.

While I am happy with the overall color scheme, I am always open to suggestions on improvements, And, as an aside, any suggestions on a new standard detail brush. I have a W&N series 7 that I picked up from my FLGS a while ago and am in love with it, but my old standard from GW, is well, old and frayed.

I like the overall colour scheme. I'd like to see it on a basic chaos marine though, as I find those models tend to make or break (mostly break!) a chaos scheme.

Personally I would like to see a bit more of the metallic trim, like you've done with the LClaw chosen's torso. Maybe on the lower leg trim as well. And maybe a lighter spot highlight on the eyes lenses.

Can't really see the lightening effect very well from the photos, but it seems to pop out really well. Are you going to do anything more to the Lords sword?

As for a standard detail brush, do you want something with less of a point than a W&N series 7? If not, go with what you already know works for you. I use Raphael 8402's and 8404's (both comparable to W&N S7) for just about everything on infantry models, when the point eventually starts to go, I find they're ideal for base coats as well.

You know, I've never noticed that I did the chest on the one guy differently. I had him in at my local GW for a paint contest for DV when I did the rest. Now I feel kinda sheepish. As for the lords sword, it didn't come out very well in the photo, but blade is a metallic purpleish red. Looks far better in person. made it combing blood red with mithril silver, then using the old purple wash. As for the eye highlights I will try that on my next model. Sadly I don't have my normal marines with me :( . Left them in Edmonton for my friends to play a few games with em, though I have a Vindicator painted up.

About the bruh, I'm looking for something comparable to the GW standard brush in the size. Point isn't too much of a consideration for me as I tend to use them as a base, then do all the details with a detail/fine detail brush.

Lol, matching uniforms are for loyalist scum anyway!

Shame the lords sword didn't come out better in the photo, sounds like an interesting technique though. Not sure why no other comments have been left, maybe if you can repost some brighter photos, with a digital camera if these were taken on a phone, you might get a bit more feedback.

Can't offer much help on the brush I'm afraid. In my experience there's not much to choose between most brands that offer a similar type of brush to the GW ones. I've tried Army Painter brushes, P3 brushes and numerous other brands that I picked up in art shops. I've had brushes from each of them that have lasted ages or barely a couple of months. If you don't want to use a W&N for the basecoat, my advice is just to use whatever you can get locally and fairly cheaply.

I'm curious to see what you did with the vindicator, I'm always undecided with SM/Chaos vehicles on whether to try and incorporate more of the trim colour onto the vehicle.

I can't help much with the brush I'm afraid. In my experience
