So when rending on a vech you roll a pen and you roll a 6 then on the rend you roll a 6 but it's really on a d3 but do you do an additional d3 ?

When a rending weapon hits a vehicle the total penetration roll is equal to :

(Strength of the Weapon) + d6 (As normal) + d3 (ONLY IF you roll a 6 on the previous dice).

No. You only roll an additional d3 armor penetration on an armor penetration roll of 6. When you roll a six-sided die to roll a d3 and it comes up "6" (i.e., 3), you haven't actually rolled a 6 on a d3. You're just using the d6 as a way to randomize between 1 and 3. Multiple other methods of rolling d3s would be acceptable - you could buy an actual d3, you could come up with a complicated system of coin flips that replicates the probabilities, etc. Since a d3 can't come up 6, the most a rending weapon can add to armor penetration is 9.

I have a d3 its a six sided die with a 1, 2, and 3 on two sides each. How do you roll a 6 on a roll of 1, 2, or 3?

Remember also, that Rending is no longer AP2 vs vehicles. Only when you roll to wound is it AP2 (when you you roll a '6' to wound, of course).
