Now it's time to start on Howl of the Banshee, a new Eldar audio.

I wonder if this will be a follow-on to the "Path of" series??

Cross-dressing Eldar party novel?

It's actually a rather nifty idea, but from memory he was concerned the genderbending may be too much for the readers. Basically the Aspect is female, so when a Banshee adopts their war mask, they become female. So all Banshees are female while they are on the battlefield, regardless of what silly old genetics has to say.

Septimus wasn't a navigator, and the powers that be didn't go for his pitch.

No, Octavia was though.

Yeah but to do Romeo and Juliet between two warring navigator houses you need two navigators...

No one really knows that much about the Navis Nobilite. It would be a cool, if not cliche'd, story.

Because Grey Knight skinning Soroitas and bathing in their blood is perfectly okay, but a character that could possibly be read as not even transgenderm, but only a metaphor for it isn't? Horrible misogynist violence good, but "Eek! Lady parts! No!!!"?

*facepalm*

Some days I am so disappointed in my chosen hobby.

Well, I can't say that I'd necessarily be *interested* in it but I don't have a problem on the face of it. I read BL books for enjoyment, not to explore the innards of gender philosophy.

That being said, after the travesty of the Emperors' Children/Fulgrim chapter in "The Primarchs" - there really isn't any ground that BL can say that they're too afraid of crossing.

I still can't believe I read that in a BL novel.

Has BL ever done anything like "The Laughing Path" or something involving the Harlequin's background? I think that would be a most interesting read, considering they work with both dark and "light" sided Eldar. Not to mention imperials.

really would like to read more on the scorpion that had been an incubi...would be awesome to see him on his way down the path to becoming an Autarch...even seeing him fight and get stronger from people's pain...
:)

his next path is banshee...

Hi, thanks for getting in touch Dale.
I did toy around with the idea of having a main character as a male Banshee for Path of the Warrior, but not this time around - it will be an all-female cast. It's a one-off story not related to the Path series, with the characters hailing from Biel-tan rather than Alaitoc.
Cheers,
Gav

So. The Howl of the Banshee.

Soon to be followed by:

The Fire of the Dragon
The Swoop of the Hawks
The Strike of the Scorpion

The...Dire of the Avenger?

Given that only one of those, Howl of the Banshee, is an actual mythological thing, no.

eldargal

Well dragons do breath fire but it's really just something they do, the Banshees howl is integral to their mythos. It's all they do, it's how they kill. Otherwise they are harmless ghosts.

Wildeybeast
11-07-2012, 05:37 AM
That's an arbitrary distinction. By the same logic I can say howling is just something banshees do. they are just ghosts who make a lot of noise. A Dragon's fire breathing is pretty integral to their mythos. Otherwise they are just big lizards with wings.

eldargal
11-07-2012, 05:54 AM
'cept dragons have claws and teeth to kill with and not all of them breath fire.:p

Wildeybeast
11-07-2012, 06:01 AM
The proper ones do. Otherwise it's just a big lizard with wings. Ghosts can make the area really cold and give people pneumonia or simply appear at the end of a bed and scare the s@$t out of people. :)

The point is the Howl of the Banshee is an established phrase in mythology and Gave Thorpe is just using it as a simple title that communicates quite simply who the protagonists are. The ohers, apart from Fire of the Dragon, are just silly and presumably an attempt to make the title look unoriginal or silly or something.

I know, just poking fun because I'm stuck at home getting cabin fever with a crippled ankle. Fire of the Dragon sort of works, but you could word it a lot better. Dragonfire or Breath of the Dragon or something like that.

It's nice that Eldar seem to be slowly getting more attention within Black library of late - so this news seems like a nice way to test the waters of if Eldar can do well in audio format, and I'm sure it will. Hope they get some of my favourite female voice actors like Beth Chalmers and Lisa Bowerman.

If this audio does well, I'd like to see the Tau and Necrons get some love. Hell, if they do Necrons - they can hire me to do all the voice processing, as I am an expert in making death-robot voice effects, it's kinda my thing yo.
