Hey there =D

My friend is looking to do a tiny bit of conversion work- and I'd love to hear a quick opinion from you all - since you see WAY more mini's then me.

He is making his own (Warhammer 40k) Elam Courbray figure (there is no figure for this guy) - and he has a /really/ cool sword "Excellus"
When activated, the blade was shrouded in glowing plasma that could cleave through the strongest armour and easily render its down to cinders.

We are looking for a cool sword to use. We are not afraid to look outside of Games Workshop - nor are we afraid of doing out-of-proportion things (such as a Dreadnought's sword)

I'd love to hear what you guys (and gals) could recommend for: Cool-*** Swords =D

Thank you!

Love all the serious responses here!

Right, time for a serious response.

Sanguinary Guard swords are possibly the nicest looking swords in the Imperium, start there bud. :)
If not, why not look into Grey Knights swords? I know they are Force weapons, but it doesn't take much to swap them over.

I'm making my own Elam Courbray as well actually, currently he's a bit on ice as I'm working on a inquisitor model, but anyway. I've always loved the fellblade from guild wars, so I've made one for Elam, resized to Final Fantasy proportions. It's the same design as a sword for one of my vanguards, seen below. If your friend does any modeling himself he could have a ponder on favourite swords from games, movies, books, etc and give it a 40k twist.

Does this get the unwieldy rule?

Does this get the unwieldy rule?

No, I play it as a regular powersword. I suppose relic blade would be closest, then it would have the twohanded rule and S6, but not unwieldy. For unwieldy it'd need Ap2, in which case it oughta get the stats of the evisverator, which I wouldn't mind. If only vanguards could use eviscerators...

if you are looking for a big sword, I really like the inquisitor stuff, check Eisenstein, Covenant, Brother Artemis, Duke Von Castellan, Severina and Sevora

otherwise as TDA said Sanguinary Guard and Grey Knights have really nice swords, or the Emperor's Champion

Empire General plastic sword is cool, high elf prince sword is cool. the new witch hunter has a very cool large sword sheathed that you could model to have the guy drawing in a samurai fashion

Alternatively, just make a bunch of greenstuff flames to represent the plasma effect. I don't have a picture on hand, but I'm sure you could find one fairly easily.
