Surely that is a contradiction in terms. Hallowe'en or All Hallows Evening is the night before All Saints Day a night when you praying for the souls in purgatory....

Conformity is for winners.

As for if you had put Samhain I would have replied with some wittering on about being a heretic

I've never understood why modern Halloween is a thing. What exactly is it you are celebrating? Teaching children the noble value of greed and the valuable skill of extortion?

Dunno.
I like the ideas of bonfires, cloaks, and drinking...
Like I imagine it's roots are...

That's what Bonfire Night is for. A proper celebration of the brutal torture and execution of a group of treasonous terrorists who almost committed the most famous atrocity in the history of the world. And we get to legally let off large explosives.

That's a second conveniently placed event so we get to do it twice...

*Roman Catholics :D

Though when you answer the door and go "Treat", they look at you confused, then you explain to them the concept of a verbal contract and that what they were offering was a trick or a treat that you agreed to a treat so they need to supply it or be taken to a small claims court for breach of contract.
Alternatively, open the door with a taser buzzing
Alternatively, open the door while weilding a chainsaw buzzing
Alternatively, don't bother opening the door.

I agree with you Wildey' with this modern take, and let's be honest for some people it can be a genuinely scary experiance being threatened at the door step.

Sadly a contract requires offer and acceptance and you'd have a hard time trying to find a magistrate who would agree that a child's 'trick or treat' constituted an offer with intent to form a contract. Also it is common knowledge that the 'trick or treat offer' carries the implication that you provide the trick or you get a treat. You'd stand a much better chance of going down the extortion route.

Back when my dad was a local bobby he created some 'no trick or treat thanks' notice for all the old folk to put up on their doors for Halloween and they ran out of them the first year he did it. I guess it's very different in America because everyone takes part in it, but it is quite distressing for a significant number of people in the UK. Also, my dogs go nuts every time the doorbell rings which gets pretty tiresome on Halloween.

Naughty Nurse costumes - though this year there were a whole lot of catsuits from the Avengers at the parties so far.

I don't think the just dressing up has caught on, it's all horror/scary costumes in my experience here.

Had a Halloween costume party, debuted my twi'lek film prop grade prosthesis to go as one of my twi'lek Sith characters from SWTOR. Looked rather wonderful, two hours to put the prosthesis and makeup on though. I wish someone had told me that body ink fumes burn and that it takes a lot of effort to get off. I was airbrushed, like a titan or something.

Children were handed packets of cocaine instead of sweets on a Halloween trick-or-treating trip, Greater Manchester Police have said.
