Alright well i gotta say, I just played a game 2 days ago as guard vs space wolves... I got crapped on... Hard.. So here's my 2 cents, if you plan on playing an army that doesn't move you better sit way the hell back near your playing edge and kill everything that could melee you to death before you shoot anything else. Otherwise, i'd suggest an army that is more mobile and could dish out some damage in CC if necessary. Also yes, fliers are cheap as hell and guardsman have some of the best ones in the game, baring necrons. So stock up on them if you can and just rape face with them.

-Note: I also put together an army list for 2000pts that doesn't use platoons because they are not nearly that good, and veterans (which are a troop choice by themselves) have 4bs which gives you just that many more hits.

Updated the list ;) how does it look now.... 9 lascannons :D

What are your thoughts on switching the valkyries for Vendetta's? they have 3 twin-linked lascannons, and you can get heavy bolter sponsons for 10pts more, for a total of 140pts saving you 30 points. Then if you really wanted you could use those points to take some heavy flamers for overwatch when SM's or anyone tries to assault you (Automatic d3 hits with overwatch).
