Not content with whoring his own franchise out to everyone that wants a go on it, Lucas has now decided he can't possibly ruin it any further and is letting Disney eff the thing up in new and imaginative ways. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20146942
Why can't people just leave it alone? *sob*

In a statement announcing the purchase, Disney said it planned to release a new Star Wars film, episode seven, in 2015.
That will be followed by episodes eight and nine and then one new movie every two or three years, the company said.

But what's 7/8/9 going to be? the Timothy Zahn trilogy? The Coruscant campaign? The Hunt for Zsinj?
And for all of those the the main actors are too old. Can you imagine anyone else as Solo?
And if they don't go down that route will we ever see Jaina Solo on screen? Or Mara Jade?

Most likely it will have nothing at all do with any of the existing fiction and will be some shameless commercial crap. With added Jar Jar subsitute to appeal to the kids. I don't see any way that this can be viewed as a good thing.

That should have be done when they had Vader selling washing machines. It's too late for any respect to be restored to the on screen version of Star Wars.

Pft i stick by stormtroopers being bad shots! the 501st....Good shots, Rest of them pretty much aim like they smoke crack even in the novels.

For good or bad, at least we will get to see new Star Wars films instead of Lucas just churning out rehashed versions of the originals, remastered, in 3D, Directors cuts, etc etc etc.

I for one am absolutely giddy about the prospects of a Pixar Star Wars movie or a dedicated Star Wars Disney park.

I don't have a problem with this, Disney generally produce a quality product and the way people whine about Lucas and the prequels I doubt they have much to lose. Also, as has been mentioned, Disney are responsible for the excellent Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
I'm cautiously optimistic.

Interesting concept, flawed execution. It seemed to veer from silly to pretentious and struggled to actually make the characters engaging. It did improve but after Buffy and Firefly I expected better. Not to mention that he said he would never work with FOX again after Firefly and then when they made up went and produced Dollhouse instead of more Firefly.:p

I think that criticism is more applicable to the second series, the first worked pretty well. And that was largely because he knew it was the last series and tried to cram loads of ideas in, much like the end of Angel was rather rushed.

Well it isn't like Dollhouse was terrible, it was just average which coming from Whedon is a big dissapointment. It's just one blip though, I still have confidence in him to deliver Nice Things. I'd love it if he worked on Star Wars but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Speaking of Star Wars, it will be interesting to see how they treat the EU. Up til now the EU hasn't had to worry about much in the way of retcons and there were never going to be any films past RoTJ. Of course this assumes they go chronologically, we might get something set in the Old Republic. Having said that I'd love a Thrawn trilogy.

Yeah, they'd have to do a timeskip of some sort. The New Jedi Order would be plenty controversial in theaters. It would probably be way too long for three movies, though.
