View Full Version : Frag Assault Launchers Shoot Grenades?

Do the frag assault launchers on a land raider (crusader and redeemer, anyway) mean that the land raider can "throw" a grenade in the shooting phase in addition to firing the rest of its weapons? Does Power of the Machine Spirit help with this shooting?

Given how good the crusader and redeemer already are at chewing up light infantry, this almost seems unfair. Then again, given how expensive they are, I don't think it's that big a deal.

Even if it were possible, they don't have frag/krak/melta nades. They just have the launchers right? Which allows the disembarking models to count as having frag grenades that turn (IIRC)

But yes, if a vehicle model did have grenades (which certainly is theoretically possible; I believe Ironclads can have them), it could throw a grenade, and Power of the Machine Spirit could theoretically help with the grenade throw.

Mmmmno, frag assault launchers can't do this. The disembarking squad counts as having frag grenades when it charges. The Land Raider itself doesn't count as having frag grenades, and the disembarking squad doesn't count as having frag grenades in the shooting phase. Nobody gets to lob a grenade.

Ironclad assault launchers or phantasm grenade launchers, on the other hand...

That said, I note you used the phrase "in addition to its other weapons." Even if the Land Raider could throw a grenade, the rules for doing so are clear: you throw it instead of firing one of your other weapons. While that's mildly annoying for an Ironclad Dreadnought, it's positively infuriating for a Carnifex with frag spines.

Carnifex don't have grenades. Frag Spines means they ignore the effects of difficult terrain on Initiative when charging. Effectively they do, but it ignores the mysterious terrain that ignores Nades, and they cant be thrown.

no. The entry for Carnifex is that they count as Frag grenades, see 40k rulebook for details.

Oh dear god no. All they do is allow a unit that assaults into terrain after disembarking from the crusader/redeemer to attack at normal initiative instead of I1 if they don't have Frag Grenades (and it allowes Ironclads to assault into terrain too). Why people over think this stuff is beyond me.

The ironclad is counted as having both frag and defensive grenades.
It can technically fire 1 set of frags instead of another weapon.

Increase your firepower with 1 simple trick (click to see details):

Take 1 hunter seeker missile. Choose not to fire the missile (why would you fire a missile a a soft target?!?) and fire the assault grenades instead!

That's hurricane Bolters, Heavy Flamer, and Frags! (or whatever combination the Ironclad can get).

Also note, that the Ironclad gets a cover save vs meltaguns! (at least, meltaguns in 'melta range').

Jeez. You don't have to get personal...

Because there are lots of critters that have grenade launcher-like effects - pain engines, ironclad dreadnoughts, some Tyranid beasties - that now, in 6th edition, have the power to shoot grenades. It seems like a fair question, one to which I have gotten a good answer. Chill out!

How was I getting personal? Lol

... on the off chance that you're serious, "Oh dear god" and "Why people over think this stuff" are both phrases that indicate (through your exaggerrated response) that you are making a negative judgment of the questioner. If that's not obvious to you, file it away in your database for future reference.

It's the internet, grow a thick skin and don't take offence to minor things and think everything is being aimed directly at you, especially as i wasn't getting personal.

I don't take offense. To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less if you want to mix your rules advice with snide comments. However, I do point out when people are being dicks because I operate under the assumption that most people don't want to be dicks. A little gentle feedback can help some people realize when they overstepped themselves and make a change in how they speak and write.

Clearly, however, you are impervious to feedback and actually want to be a dick. In this case, as far as I'm concerned, the conversation is over. Enjoy being a dick.
