I like the optimism that the € will still be around at Christmas...

Well it isn't that optimistic, Christmas 2013 on the other hand...

Bark = Necron Canopotek Puppy
Extinctor = Necron Triarch Dodo

I believe this to be the best translation.

and the mega force is interesting. I hope Doctor who will be able to stop the Aliens this Christmas, because the Aliens goal is to "steal all games workshop products"

So these are the only two? No Orks or Eldar or Tyranids?

Cap'nSmurfs
10-24-2012, 07:44 AM
I believe there's only ever two for each system. And this being 40k, one is always Space Marines. It was the same last year.

eldargal
10-24-2012, 07:44 AM
Just these two, they only did two for each army last year too.

Chaos just got a bundle package, too, and are also in the starter box - next newest army is Necrons. It makes sense.

Bark may be Ark or Barque.

Yeah, and last year the non-SM army was DE even though GK and Crons were newer.

So what you're saying is they're a year out of Sync. Next years 2 will be Marines and Chaos

I think chances are one of the 40k megaforces will always be Marines, the other will be whichever army was released the year before and was selling well if more than one. But we only have one year to go on, precedent and GW don't go together comfortably. Precedent said C:SM is always the first codex of a new edition, amongst other things.

I figured they were going to go for Dark Angels / Chaos Marines, much like the High Elves / Skaven last year.

We're probably over-analyzing it, I bet they just do what they think is coolest/will sell the best.

Y'know, the one thing I find really odd about the models listed in these rumoured Megaforces is that the SM box doesn't include a Stormtalon.

Flyers are one of the 'big new deals' of 6th and it makes sense that the Necron force would include one - why not the Space Marines?

Can I reserve the 1st reply post for "inb4 people complain about marines"? :p

Is it not more to boost the sales of stuff that isn't selling so well? Is there anything in the box sets that you probably wouldn't buy normally, but seems like a good deal in the bundle?

Are drop-pods a must-have for armies? I don't think I've ever seen anyone use one.

Just out of curiosity: Has Grey Knights (or their predecessors daemonhunters) ever had any love in bundle manner? Battleforces, mega battleforces, etc..?

Cap'nSmurfs
10-25-2012, 03:33 AM
How would you do it? Grey Knights literally have three bespoke boxes, one shared vehicle with Blood Angels, some characters, and the Space Marine range.

The Megaforces aren't really about what's selling well or not selling well (although it's a factor) so much as Here You Go, Have A Cool Entire Army For Christmas.

How would you do it?

Darn.. you are right.. Try as i might, i cannot get a nice set up for roughly 200€.. I know that i am biased and my personal collection and preferences cloud my judgement of the contents (What I would want versus what would make it good starter box / general addition to existing force :( )

On the bright side, if the CSM release is anything to go by, all new army releases will have some sort of bundle deal for one box each of the new things. I recall when Space Marines were redone in 2008 you could buy a box full of all the new stuff then, too (Vanguard, Sternguard, Drop Pod, Thunderfire Cannon). Can't recall a similar package since then.

Mind you, they always used to do cool army deals to buy the entire force that was used in that month's battle reports. I miss those.

The CSM bundle didn't have a discount though, it was just a one click ordering thing. The megaforces usually have rather good discounts.

Cap'nSmurfs

I stand corrected, I thought there was a discount. That's a pity, but I guess a convenient pity if you simply must have everything new all at once.

For anyone looking to compare, in USD:

the cost of the space marine megaforce is $250, the value is 333.25
and the Necron one's value is 357.25, at the same cost,
along side 6 scarab bases, which they don't sell individually so I don't know how to add that in

I wonder if they'll do a Chaos-Deamon force that they can market to 40K and Fantasy at once. (thus being a bit lazy)

Ya...still not worth the money in the slightest Go GW! making 100% useless box sets.....

The last megaforces had something like a 30% discount, better than youget at most online retailers. Very much worth it.

Worth it when compared with current prices, but not when you consider how much they've hiked the price up over the last couple of years.

Also when the Online Retailers get hold of the Megaforces, won't that mean they're selling them at a discount even greater than 30% Or do they not usually get them?

eldargal

The megaforces are direct only, and any discount os good, comparing it to prices from years ago isn't particulalry relevent as we can't pay those prices anymore.

Are they? Is this a new thing? I know I've definitely seen them in my local independent before, despite having two GW within about five miles of each other.

I realise it's not relevant for people looking for the best discounts now, I'm just talking in terms of what we feel is a good deal. I still look at models and compare them to how much I'd have paid when I started collecting and they just don't feel like good value for money any more. But that said, the Necron Bundle does appeal to me...

Bummer, I'd be pretty tempted by the marines set if I could get it at £120 (20% off). But I don't actually need it anyway :)
