View Full Version : I bloody hate child actors!

Yeah I know, rather random.
But I truly have a deep seated loathing for the little oiks. Whether it's got a role in an advert which bears no relation to any known human emotion, or some little twonk with a bowl cut succeeding in turning one of the big screens most iconic villains into a whiney little *****, again devoid of any emotion known to humanity.
Seriously, how many films or telly progs have been ruined by these vile turds? And let me tell you, it gets even worse if you have the grave misfortune of getting to know one. Not even a pilot is that far up their own arse. Seriously. Kid round the corner was a drama school cretin. He came round mine a few times, as the parental units were friends. I go down stairs to get some snacks, and bro is in the bog, making room for said snacks. When we get back, untalented scrote has hoiked Episode IV (pre Spesh edition you know) and bunged in Aladdin. Didn't ask or anything. Just decided it was a better film. Oh, and he tried to dictate what we would play on our own NES.... On the bright side, he's now part of a theatre troop touring schools. Which in the world of acting I understand to be in the realms of 'pissed up on own brand cider and shouting at pigeons' in terms of career success.
Now there are good child actors. I seriously tip my hat to the cast of Harrg Potter. Likewise Haley Joel Osman. Very good those ones. But in general? Burn them. Burn them now.

Yeah ban 'em all. Warwick Davis would be inundated with job offers... Everyone wins.

What about the child actors in Game of Thrones? They're cool.

There are exceptions. And it's usually the stage school goons that are terrible.

Then you have kids like Jake Lloyd. Bad child actor and now bad adult actor who can't get work cause was riding on the success of EI, which in no way was a success based on acting ability. I saw one movie with him as an adult and couldn't stand it.
THen there's Leo (Tween/Teen actor when most people first saw him). You want to loath him, but his work is just f-ing awesome. But as a person, I've heard mixed.

I dunno. He's meant to be a sort of anti-hero in The Beach, but he just comes across as a selfish ****.

Lol, this threads hilarious. Unfortunately I really like kids films in general over genres. How anyone can't love the home alone movies (1 and 2) is beyond me :). Little Thora Birch was a fantastic child actor, and so was that kid from little miss sunshine.
I grant you some are horrible, but who can't crack a smile when the little boy in bed knobs and broomsticks turns to Angela Lansbury and says "what do you want with me and my knob" classic if ever there was one :)

Surely you mean Leon?
Yet for every decent one, there's literally dozens of talentless kids out there, over enunciating their vowels...

I BLOODY hate children
There you go, improved that for you.
Yeah I can see your point, they generally are whiny little ****s, and both Darth Vader, And Boba Fett ahve been ruined for me by their poor portrayal.

I had successfully blocked Boba from my memory. Nice going cocknocker!
See, I think the fact that frankly awesome child actors are out there makes the hiring of terrible child actors all the more inexplicable. I mean, even Coronation Street has fallen victim. Sally and Kevin's daughters used to be played by effing AWFUL actresses. Every line utterly devoid of emotion, eyes constantly fixed straight on the camera. SERIOUSLY? Compare to wee Tom that used to be in Hollyoaks. That dude is an awesome actor! And there's not exactly a dearth of would be child starlets out there. Are the casting team seriously telling people that the likes of Jake Lloyd were the best they could come up with? Really? Pull the other one.

Not cool dude. Not cool.
Shame, because his Dad was actually pretty cool. He must have been so disappointed in his clone. Either that, or the inhabitants of Kamino were taking the piss.

No that's not the point.
Boba Fett was a fallen law man who murdered a rapist, he was condemned to death and became the most feared badass bounty hunter in the galaxy, but with his own strict code of honour, then the prequels came along and turned him into a whiny ***** clone with daddy issues.

Are they not the same thing?
Additional quality child acting performances include: Christian Bale in Empire of the Sun, Kiersten Dunst in Interview With a Vampire, Abigail Breslin - Little Miss Sunshine, Jodi Foster in Taxi Driver, the entire cast of Stand by Me, Chloe Moretz - Kick *** AND Let Me In.... there's more, I'm sure, but these are the ones that come to mind.
I mean, sure, there are plenty of crap child actors, but please remind yourself that we plenty horrible adult actors like John Cena, The Twilight Cast, and the current Adam Sandler (what happened to funny Adam?)

Remember though that the only reason Boba Fett even got a backstory at all was because the fans loved him so much. Otherwise, he would still just be a random faceless mook.

I don't get the whole 'ruined by prequels' thing. Boba Fett is still awesome in the original series so who cares if he started off as whiny brat, he grew up.
(what happened to funny Adam?)

Apparently Adam Sandler films are only good if he's only doing a voice.

True, but they could have kept it consistent, Lucas was quite happy to make money licensing the universe off for writing, so should have took it into account when making the films.

Doesn't matter there is only the trilogy. :D

Tell that to people in their twenties now (I know) who've now started watching the films in chronological order. As in, grown up with 1, 2 and 3 instead of 4, 5 and 6.
Interestingly, I learned today that the first time people got in that 'effects ruin cinematography' thing was in 1902. There was an article on 'Voyage dans la lune', the famous one with the rocket stuck in the moon's eye, printed at the time, which sounded just like something complaining about a Michael Bay film nowadays.

Here is a question I pose to you nay-sayers... How many of you were ACTUALLY growing up as episodes 4, 5, and 6 were releasing?
Hmmm, that's what I thought.
If there's one thing I hate it's that people say that 1, 2, and 3 were bad, they looked freaking amazing. To be fair, I like pretty things and explosions, the prequels gave me that. To me the original trilogy is outdated.
I appreciate what made them successful, but you shouldn't use them as basis for comparison against the prequel films.
Also, if they'd just replaced Hayden Christensen then the world would be right.

The thing that lets the prequels down is twofold:
Jar Jar Binks
The Romance
Even Hayden Crhistensen is tolerable, no more annoying that a regular late teen/early twenties male when he isn't trying to chat up Natalie Portman.
Skip through the Jar Jar and romance seens and the prequels are really quite good.

I liked Jar Jar Binks, purely for the fact that he seems like a Tzeentchian Daemon, he acts like a mentally challenged person, then when he's in power he's all like "JUST AS PLANNED".
Imagine him as a Pink Horror and you'll be fine. :p

To paraphrase a South Park meme
"if you go into the prequels thinking that Jar Jar Binks will do something smart, then you're going to have a bad time."
I went into it thinking that Jar Jar was stupid, and I was not disappointed. It was all part of the plan. :p
Also, only true Tzeentchian disciples know the true meaning of 'JUST AS PLANNED"

Are they as old as that to have watched them in the wrong order?

That's irrelevant as the others didn't exist so you still saw them as IV, V, VI.

It's not really about how they looked, although they did look too clean and not as grtty as The Trilogy they're certainly not outdated, they aged rather well, in the same manner Total Recall or Blade Runner have aged well, because they were well done originally.
Also, if they'd just replaced Hayden Christensen then the world would be right.
It's irrelevant as there are only three star wars films.
