Recently started to chronicle the dozen or so concurrent build projects I have going, and finally brought the first out of ‘draft’ to publish. The first of four intact industrial structures. Still WIP, but only the detailing remains. While I realize it may be difficult to pick out detail from a piece that is only primed, I’d appreciate any thoughts or input.

Thanks for taking a look.

[EDIT] Didn't drop the pix in-forum to conserve bandwidth (and I loathe Photobucket). If simpler, I can do so.

That is an awesome looking building! Any chance you have any WIP pics of it

By the way, I subscribed to your blog's RSS, so don't disappoint. :P

Very impressive work there. My only suggestion is to create some detail around the punch outs of the electrical box (is that an 4 gang box?) so that it doesn't look as much like the back of a switch box. Of course I am an electrician and would probably be one of the only people to notice that, so maybe I should just get bent!
Oh and have you got something in mind for the purpose of this building? Because some more themed bits to give it a more "lived in" feel might go a long way as well.

Unfortunately I do not have any WIP pix on this unit beyond what's already posted. However, I have all components and I'd be happy to roughly toss them together in some semblance of final product and take a pic to give you an idea of what's involved. I do have the three other pieces in unfinished state as well, so I'll ensure I post some "step 1" pictures for those.

No worries on lack of content for your RSS... I have multiple postings queued up in draft state. Just need to get my lazy @ss in gear and finish them. Hopefully it will be of interest to someone other than myself. :)

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. Really appreciate it.

I like........

People don't pay enough attention to scenery in my opinion.

Looks great :) Where did you get the plastic cross-stitch lattice? Seems like a very useful kind of material to have.

FWIW, I never would have guessed that it was a switch box until it was pointed out.

I asked the boss, and she tells me its called "plastic canvas". Also that it is readily available at craft stores such as Michael's or JoAnn's in the yarn section.

When working with it, ensure it has adequate bracing when glued (if you are building a platform) as it is somewhat flexible. Super glue worked well for me.

Updated shots of the full table with mock-up layout (pieces in various stages of completion). The pix illustrate much more concisely the desired end result.

Very well put together...
It looks lilke what I imagine portions of a Forgeworld would look.
Not bad, and very creative!

Thank you guys. Definitely appreciate the kind words. I'll get a few more of these close to completion before I update again.

By the by, had a few questions about components. Here's a short list:

- Four-gang electrical switch boxes (the main structure in many of the pieces)

- Various PVC plumbing pipes, elbows, caps and t-junctions. Mostly in 1/4". All acquired at the local Lowe's. The large "tank" is a PVC sewer end cap. You'll generally need to go to a contractor plumbing supply store to acquire. Expect to pay $15.00ea.

- 1/4" MDF (medium density fiberboard) for the bases, cut to spec.

- The "smoke stacks" are actually used mortar tubes from our last 4th of July. The kind that come in the larger sets. If you want one, hopefully you live somewhere where fireworks of that ilk are legal.

- "railings" and all frame braces for the platforms are sprues from GW (and other) plastic kits, cut and sanded.

If there's anything else in there you would like identified, give me a hollar and I'll do my best to figure out from whence it came.
