I have discovered something... remarkable. In that I feel I have to remark on it. And by remark, I mean post the pictures for you all to see.
First, I include this seller's eBay pitch:
Leman russ tank, home made from plaster. exact replica of games workshop
some base coated in silver, one in white.
some have air holes and small defects but generally all good. Small defects just add to battle scared tank look.
Once painted would look fine.
they have no sponsors / guns, these are to be added by yourself.
So, you think okay, you're clearly stealing GW's IP, okay, how bad can they bRRRAAAAAGGH OH MY GOD!!! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!!

HE WANTS £10 FOR THESE! TEN QUID!
I can't get over the fact that
a.) Someone has done this.
b.) They actually this these atrocities are worth selling
and
c.) Some poor little kid is going to get bought this by his well-meaning parent and show up at his local club to be roundly mocked for bringing what is clearly a used turd in place of a tank.
The bare-faced cheek of it is beyond me.

Can it not be reported as being "fake"?
Seriously they are some messed up mould lines. You would have thought the seller would have at least cleaned it up a little bit.
And plaster?! Really is resin that hard to get hold of? One drop and it's going to shatter like the dreams of tiny Tim when het gets those bad boys for Christmas.

That's shockingly bad, I think I'd rather invest my £10 behind the bar...

That's terrible. Maybe someone should copy the link from his eBay page and send it to GW. If I must partake in the plastic crack, the ****s gotta be the real deal.
I just emailed GW.

"Um sir, what is with the uh...that line over there?"
"Huh? Oh that, don't mind that, Betsy here was in the Battle of Gormos IV. A Reaver Titan sliced her clean down the middle, but the boys managed to salvage BOTH halves and stitch her right back up together again. Besides, onces she's painted the enemy will never know..."

You have to admit, this is pretty funny, considering some of what I've seen on eBay. My favorite are the people in Russia selling Primarch models, because they appear to be resin casts of at least some quality.
From a purely practical standpoint, even painted and sealed, wouldn't the edges of this constantly crumble apart?

That's quite simple, I'm not one for ebay as I'd spend too much if I was...

It's a cut and shut, you wo'n't get insurance on that!
Amusingly, you can buy proper leman's for less than £10

If these were cheaper and not 1/2 way around the world I would totally buy a couple for making destroyed vehicle scenery.

If you want a good laugh at odd ebay descriptions, check out this TMP thread, kept me entertained for days, Especially the """Wampa"""

So then the stance most of you would take to replicas of GW minatures would be against such a thing? I was looking at producing Titans and other large items, possibly produce troops if i could pull it off, but if many people are gonna scream at me for copying and report me then I might as well stop before I begin.

Yes, you are likely to draw fire for that sort of thing. If you are reproducing GW minis, you are definitely violating their IP, and a lot of people are going to get annoyed at you. If you're making something in the 40k background that is not represented by a model or scratch-building your own version of an existing model - sort of like Chapterhouse, but on a smaller scale - some people will cut you some slack.
Personally, I draw the line at using casting techniques to make copies of things that I can't buy separately. For example - if I want a terminator librarian shoulder pad (the one with the book) and I want to put it on a plastic terminator to make a librarian character, no such thing exists. So, I feel justified in making a copy of the bit and adding it to the terminator kit. On the other hand, if I just really want another set of marine legs, I think it's pretty much stealing to make my own.
However, YMMV.

I would Report you in a heart beat since i prefer not to be sold crap quality recasts.
On a side note Leman russ tanks are based off WW2 French heavy tank looks.......Its pretty funny once you see the match up lol!

That is against the law.

I would be very surprised if the tanks, gun designs, equipment (especially for guard) did not look like existing things.
At one point I thought that it was ok, under "fair use" to cast your own peices for "personal" use, but that is not strictly the case under UK law, obviously there maybe some local differences.
There is a difference between a scratch build and casting. I have built a scratch built warhound before now, which looks similiar to the lucius pattern but is neither a direct copy nor am I trying pass it off as a ForgeWorld beasty.

Yuck, horrible Russ, and certainly illegal.
Nice idea for personal use to create wrecked tanks though. Hmmm.

Hello Joseph,
Thanks for the email, we have passed this issue on to our legal team to investigate.
Thank you for the notification of this issue.
Kind Regards,
Scott Edwards.
I don't mind people making a few bits and bobs for themselves. But some poor sod could end up with a ****ty Christmas present bought by some parent thinking their getting a bargain.
