Ok, so I had an idea how to kit them out for 5th but never got around to it. I need some advice how to equip TW cav. and Termie WG. I want to run with a few grey hunter squads. I have 3 TWs right now and probably will get another box. I can run up to 6. I have 1 box of Termies but probably will pick up another box. Anyone have suggestions how to equip them and why?
Any help appreciated.

Personally I'm having decent success with combi-weapons and a mix of CCW. But I don't play tournaments, and I play fluffy SW's, so the Wolf Guard have a mix of gear to make them more individual.

For wolf Guard, i would say a mix of Combi-Plasma / Melta and Wolf claws, with at least one person having a chainfist (thunder-hammers keep getting nerfed every edition), place them in drop pods instead of land raiders to save points. As for Thunderwolf Cav. always have at one dude with a thunderhammer and take a SS, they will need the invul save as people will throw Str 10 stuff at them, and those shots tend to be ap2 or ap1.

Cool, I have one TW with thunder Hammer and SS, I was thinking about making the other two just Bolt Postol/cc Then if I add another two or three, I wonder if it's worth having any other Special weapons.
Also, You are referring to Wolf Guard Termies right? I donk know if they come with combi weapons. I know you can buy them (the actual models of the guns) or I can just convert some, but would you give the chain fist and the wolf claws to the same dudesmen that have the combi weapons? that seems pretty expensive points wise.

I take shield with all my wolves. They NEED the invul because they attract lascannons, especially after that first assault when they wipe out the enemy assault squad without taking a scratch. One has a power fist. Strength 10 insta-death baby. As for the rest of the army.... Loganwing. All termies should have a wolf claw minimum. A couple of shields and a chainfist for dealing with vehicles and you've got a winning team.

Thanks. I got my second box of Thunderwolves. I only have one built as a TH/SS guy. So the other five I need to build. I had heard that SS were really expensive and that it was better to have one or two with SS and keep them out front for wound allocation purposes. Any thoughts on that? I want to build these guys tonight but I'm still up in the air about how to equip the individual units. I read that the bolt gun counts as a close combat weapon for rending as it's not a special weapon. I wonder if that is going to be FAQ'ed out.
I'm also unsure how many I can take in a squad or if it's better to have them broken up into two squads. Or possibly make one of them a Lord.
Anyhow, thoughts on equipping the individual thunderwolves?

Storm shields are a must, they are too fragile without them. when i run my Twolves i do it in two groups of 4, all with shields, and a TH and fist in each squad. do not bother running them against the following armies: grey knights (too many force weapons), dark eldar (poison is mean), and ig (too much firepower)
i have been wrecking CSM, SM, necrons, and especially tyranids with these bad boys throughout 6th. but they are expensive (i dont play much games below 2k anyway)
ill post my most recent list (all wysiwyg and fluffy) if u want

Cool, Yes that would be helpful. I'd love to see your lists. My biggest concern is cost of this unit squeezing out other fun things to take in the same list. I do see the point of the shields, but most of the articles out there about tactics are outdated (5th) and I wanted to get an idea of how they ran in 6th. Thanks everyone for your input!!

yeah in 5th you wanted to make them all different to abuse wound allocation, but in 6th you want them kitted out and in your opponents face asap. unfortunately there isnt alot out there for space wolves tactica for 6th edition (maybe i should write some? i have dozens of games in under my belt for 6th...), the space wolves blog used to be good but they since have apparently stopped playing and are now asking for money with raffles and writing that awful cartoon... sigh, but on to my most recent list:
HQ
thunderlord
th/ss
runic armor
saga of the bear
fenris wolves x2
WGBL (outflanks)
combiplas
wolfclaw
saga of the hunter
FA
Twolf cavx4
ss x4
TH
Twolf cavX4
ssx4
PF
Troops
GHx10 (outflanks)
plasx2
wolf standard
MOTW
GHx6
melta
Lazerback
GHx6
melta
Lazerback
Heavy support
Long fangsx6
HBx3
Lasx2
long fangsx5
MLx4
vindicator
2000pts
fairly straight forward, rush your enemy, take out tanks with LFs and lazerbacks. again not the type of list that you would want to run against certain armies/builds but very fun to play with!! (last night i CRUSHED my buddies CSMs) the vindi is their to look intimidating and draw some heavy weapons away from the Twolf wave that smashes face, and i dont think ive lost a challenge yet with my thunderlord. dont get me wrong though, this is very much a "win big or lose big" army list, but again, a blast to play with
good luck with space wolves! i have been playing them for over a decade now and have almost 6000 points of them and with the variety and ability to create SO many different builds i dont think ill stop adding to my army any time soon :) a lot of ppl say they are very "vanilla" but tis not true, imo only when you play competitively and spam lists would it get boring....

Awesome, this gives me some ideas. I'm using blu-tac to stick the shields on so I can use them naked if needed. I left the bolt pistols on but the shields cover them. I'm using blu tac alot these days for things I'm too lazy to magnetize. It works well.
I do have a question. Your second HQ choice, What does WGBL stand for. I assume Wolf Guard something. I may be being totally dense here, but I can't find an HQ for SW that has the initials WGBL.
Thanks

Ok, so after looking at this I have a question. You use a Wolf Guard Battle Leader in regular power armor correct? Do you attach him to a squad or do you run him by himself? Just curious how this guy is played.
Thanks.

yes, he is in PA as he has saga of the hunter (outflank and stealth) he joins the walking GH plasma squad and outflanks with them (my new favorite saga) and with the change to acute senses i have almost always outflanked on the side i want, with 6 plasma shots comin at my opponent! this squad has won me games by itself (late game contesting/scoring or killing off a scoring unit on an objective). which brings me to another tip, when placing objectives, put one on the side you want to rush/outflank on, itll be too much for your opponent to hold onto while the razorback squads hold down the ones in ur deployment zone. most versatile codex hands down (well maybe not compared to the new CSM)

So, I found that I have enough SW to make this force as well as add a few other units to swap if I feel like trying some new stuff. One other Question. By Thunderlord do you mean a wolf lord or are you referring to Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf Mount? Also, does your Battle Leader ride? Or is he on foot also.
Thanks!!

Thunder lord usually does refer to a Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf. And Wolf Guard Battle Leaders can't take a Thunderwolf, and have to be in Power Armour and on foot to take the Saga of the Hunter, so he is indeed on foot :)

Thanks.
That's what I thought. My army is coming along nicely.
