Internal Glow Tutorial?

I really want to do a couple of Necron pieces in the style of the Golden Army from Hellboy II.

Currently, I am thinking of doing it this way:
1. prime white
2. blue wash on joints
3. overbrush lighter blue over wash
4. drybrush 1:1 light blue & white
5. overbrush rest of model with dark brownish gray
6. drybrush gold
7. brown wash over gold

Does that make sense? Can anyone point me towards a tutorial to do an internal glow effect, so I can see how others have done it?
