Is really rather good!
It's as if the Kochanski series never happened!

As a first episode i thought Trojan was a bit naff but overall i like the new series. The ony thing i don't like is the new design for Kryten's head.

I thought it was ace! Straight back to 4 gimboids arsing around with no real goal.
And Rimmeds 'I've crashed' face had me in stitches! Can't wait for the next ones!

I liked it!
It's a good comeback. I don't think it's *quite* as good as series 1-6 (so far) but it was a solid episode, good writing, live audience, FUNNY and they went back to real sets and model-work over CGI which are all positives in my book.
This is a big deal for me as many other childhood favourites have come back in ways that just didn't click with me at all (dr who, star trek ect) so It was quite the "arms in the air" happy moment for me to be able to enjoy it. I can't wait for the rest.

I am shocked and appalled at the lack of comment on this thread.
Those who do not enjoy Red Dwarf, or at least appreciate it, are total smegheads.

I thought it was pretty decent. Nothing spectacular, but solid and fairly funny. A massive improvement over the stupid miniseries they did a couple of years back.

I hoped it would be good, but expected it to be crap. I thought it was good :)

Yeah It was much better than the Back to Earth bullcrap they had a few years back.
I enjoyed it. And based on the number of "likes" the quote i put on facebook at the time got, so did a lot of my friends....

As a CGI artist myself, I cannot help but be disappointed at the amount of 'the models looked way better than the CGI' commments it's got so far. :(*
It was good. I thought Chris Barrie was very good, right back to how Rimmer is, the character interplay was back to what feels right, the plot was a little bit... sci-fi for Red Dwarf, if that makes any sense, but a solid start. The synopses for the other episodes in the series look like classic Dwarf too, which is nice.
*Just being silly, heh. Although I'd laugh my arse off if it turned out to be CGI very cleverly done to look like models.

Interesting...was the Kochanski period all that bad, or is it really just your opinion?
Up The Walls!

I don't personally consider it that bad, but I can understand the criticism. Series VII tended towards a shift in the storytelling style due to the cast differences- Chris Barrie was barely in it due to his work with the Brittas Empire, and Chloe Annett wasn't the original actress to play Kochanski (That would go to C.P. Grogan). Series VIII very much changed the premise of the show, which is always going to divide opinion, but it was somewhat felt that the increased budget hurt the show somewhat; the greater reliance on sci-fi storytelling as opposed to the small, 'four men in a boat in space' sitcom premise it had had from I through VI felt a bit unnatural. It's one of those things where, I suppose, if it wasn't Red Dwarf it'd have worked perfectly well on its own.

I had no problem with 7 and 8
Chloe Annett was good as Miss K, plus she had a less anoying voice and was better looking than the original Miss K.
Series 8 was a wierd one, good by itself, but wasn't really a Dwarf feel.
Next one tonight!

Same response as the first, the character moments were really good, some really funny moments, the A plot was a little bit ropey at times, but it's still going well. Had the entire room in laughter at a fair few points. There are similarities to previous episodes, but nothing too blatant past the initial concept- one could say it rips a little of season 2's... Queeg, was it called? but the only real way to call it 'exactly the same' is if you use less than three words to describe it. Next week's looks entertaining.
[EDIT: I wonder how much of the negative reaction to Kochanski's addition to the show was 'tail wags dog' effect- shows often decrease in quality after a new character is added or an old character leaves a show, therefore, if a new character arrives in the show, it must therefore signal a decrease in quality. Regardless of whether or not it does.]

I really liked last night's episode. Reminding us that Lister is his own Dad was a stroke of genius, and really worked well.
Cat remains Cat, and it was fun to see the vending machines play a big role. MOAR PLS!

I had no problems with VII and VIII but the back to earth nonsense was crap.
X Has certainly been better than I expected, though it wouldn't hurt to have Holly and Kachanski....

You can just watch it on Dave's tv channel website. I don't even own a TV so it's the only way I've been able to watch it anyway.

Aye as soon as it was set-up it was obvious what was going to happen there...
I think they had the camera angle wrong though on the post-evoloution scene.

Again, fantastic episode!
Kryten in particular was very good! Not sure why, but the part where he waved at the documents chucked out the airlock really tickled me!
