Here's something I've never made before - a purely footslogging list (though I guess footslogging is the wrong word when all my units are either jump infantry or pretty sedentary...). The idea is partly inspired by a game with my Blood Ravens. I was surprised to see how hard it was for my IG opponent to kill just ordinary marines, walking around outside their transports. That got me thinking about Blood Angels, and how maybe the problem is my approach. Anyway, I'm curious to hear how you think this list measures up.
HQ
• Jump Librarian
Elites
• 5 Sanguinary Guard (1 Power Fist, 2 Infernus Pistols)
• Jump Chaplain
• 2 Sanguinary Priests (1 Jump, 1 Foot) w/Power Weapons [the jump priest has meltabombs, but that's more to soak up spare points then for any other reason]
Troops
• 10 Assault Marines (2 Meltaguns, Power Fist Sergeant)
• 5 Death Company (1 Power Fist, 1 Hand Flamer)
Fast Attack
• 5 Vanguard Veterans w/Meltabombs & Power Weapons (Dual Claws Sergeant)
Heavy Support
• 5 Devastators (4 Plasma Cannons, Power Weapon/Meltabombs Sergeant)
In most cases, the devastators and foot priest will be a unit, as will be the librarian and sanguinary guard and jump priest, and the death company and chaplain (though in some situations I could see putting the jump priest with the assault squad instead) (EDIT: Actually, I'm not nearly as sure as I thought I'd be about who goes where, because I can also see leaving the priest with the guard to make them hard to kill and letting the librarian support the assault squad). The devastators will always get deployed in a likely-looking ruin and the vanguard veterans will always be held in reserve, while the various jump squads (death company & chaplain, assault squad, sanguinary guard & librarian & priest) will get deployed or not depending on the mission and the terrain.
I think I already know what this list's weaknesses are: low model count, lack of scoring units. To the first... well, Blood Angels are always going to be an elite army. To the second, between this force's mobility, durability, and general killiness, I'm actually pretty confident that I can pull of a narrow win in an objective based game, more so if I get lucky and roll one of the missions where my devastators or vanguard vets will count as scoring.
As I wrote, though, this is my first ever foot list - what do you think?
