So I was thinking of painting the Imperial contents of Dark Vengeance as a small allied contingent, and a "homemade" unforgiven dark angels successor chapter, cause I can't be arsed to remove the Iconography.
So I was thinking of painting them like this

The cloaks and Iconography I was going to do black and silver. Bikes and terminators painted the same as standard marines.
I'm still playing with names for them.

Maybe something to reflect the blood red nature of their armour & angel icongraphy, like Blood Angels.
Angels of Caliban?
Knights of Caliban
The Unforgiven
Knights of the Unforgiven
Unicorns of Alderon

I like it. I'm doing similar, keeping them as allies only. But I ahve removed the logos. :P

The Unforgiven Angelic Bloody Unicorn knights of Caliban?
The armour will probably be a darker red, but picking one out on army painter...
A couple i've played with were
Angels of Veritas
Brotherhood of Vengeance
But I'm not sure they flow well enough.
@the doc, If I removed the Iconography I'd end up folding them into my existing Blood Wolves

One neat approach would be to give them an odd (but catchy) sounding name, explained away by "common translation of the Chapter's name, which is normally written in an odd dialect, or a common nickname". This was used to explain the whole Space Sharks/Charcharadons thing, and was used to explain the Rainbow Warriors in some awesome fanfluff (http://www.philipsibbering.com/wh40k/10-06-01-reimage-rainbow-warriors.shtml). Hence my Chaos Marines being the "Dawnspitters". Plus, it gives an excuse for using something a bit off the beaten path.
Alternatively, add them to your Blood Wolves, but fluff out why they have Unforgiven iconography. Perhaps a company of Blood Wolves became wise to the Fallen in battle, and the only peaceful solution that could be reached was for that company to be co-opted by the Dark Angels, oft left with the Blood Wolves, but under a vow of silence/vocal cords removed?

Interesting idea, but I've stolen enough for them already lol mixing space wolves models, the occasional filed robed space marine, bits of blood angel iconography, friendly salamander personality, and codex space marines lol.

Just a thought -- there are the Guardians of the Covenant, which have a similar colour scheme (sort of) to the one you're talking about:
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/thumb/d/d1/Guardians_of_the_Covenant.jpg/200px-Guardians_of_the_Covenant.jpg
Article on Lexicanum (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Guardians_of_the_Covenant#.UGNHZ3aI2kI)
The other (possible) successor chapter to the Dark Angels that doesn't just look like another bunch of Dark Angels is the Angels of Vigilance:
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/thumb/5/5b/Angelsofvigilance.jpg/200px-Angelsofvigilance.jpg
Again, article on Lexicanum (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Angels_of_Vigilance#.UGNHynaI2kI). Just in case your main desire is just to have a Dark angel successor that doesn't just look the same as the Dark Angels.
I'm personally inclined against adding new successors to, well, any Legion except Ultramarines and Imperial Fists, on the basis that the Imperium is against creating successors from any of the divergent chapters to a greater or lesser degree, but I guess the DAs get a bye as the Imperium at large doesn't know just how divergent they actually are ;)

I did look at that, the problem is they all use different iconography, and i'm been lazy with this so just wanted to re-colour the DA models....

Cool marine!
2 quick questions:
1) can you actually put a mk 6 helmet with the mk 8 breastplate. Fluff says no.
2) what did you use to produce that picture. I want to steal it. Now.

2) what did you use to produce that picture. I want to steal it. Now.It's a painting program available on Bolter and Chainsword. (http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?autocom=pages&do=show&id=1) It doesn't restrict sticking mk6 hat on mk8 chest, but I don't think doing that on a model would actually work :P

It is indeed that program, and I haven't tried, but general consensus seems to be they don't fit.

good colour scheme. almost no helmets fit in a mark eight chest, no chance at all of getting a corvus on top.

Part of why my latest Marines project is Blood Ravens is that they are made of a wide variety of bits, including Space Marines, Grey Knights, Blood Angels, and at least one converted Chaos terminator. In addition to opening every ancient supply cache they come across, everyone knows that the Blood Ravens like to jack stuff from their enemies, their friends, and innocent bystanders, hence the odd mix of bits.

So like relictors but less grey?:D The Blood Magpies. In DoWII it gets kind of ridiculous; "This Garm-pattern bolt pistol bears the sigils of the Imperial Inquisition. It was discovered on the Blood Raven Fortress on Cyrene Secondus, near the body of a murdered Inquisitor."

I'm toying with doing a project partly based on the 2 page spread of Ultramarines 2nd Coy in C:SM, and the wide variety of armour (and weapons) in use there. Just not Ultramarines ;)

Blood wolf Chaplain.
Based on the old DA interrogator Chaplain. With the Stormbolter from I the terminator captain, and the Jump pack is the very old one from when you could still order bitz. I've also got a partially built on foot model which will have the space wolf wolf headed powerpack (which all the command squad was having).

Yay Aeronautica! Love that game. Need more people to play thought so we can get a proper campaign going :( Like bloodbowl or Necomunda, it gets so much more interesting with linked games, budgeting for your squadron, pilots gaining experience etc.

Didn't know if the step would be entirely covered by the reinforced armour, plus cut the step off.

Not having used it on the front...

And that's what I got done this afternoon, two tanks. Raided my bits box for purity seals for the one on the right. That's "Tank 1" "Baal".
Every weapon has a purity seal on and the rest went on the hull on both sides.
if you would like to donate purity seals to this silliness.... :D
I deliberately put the exhaust armour high as I'm a lazy painter when I do paint and it means I've covered the vents...
If my modelling game was any good I'd have filled in the space underneath.

Longer than I realised. Though looks longer cause the dates are back to front.
It doesn't come out very often, but I'm going to write a list and build an army to the list and then maybe I'll actually "finish" something? :D
Also thanks :)
I thought I'd have trouble getting the left pads to fit, but apart from trimming a couple of shoulders to match plastic arms to the bolter position its gone better than I expected.
Kirsten

good job. I am not a fan of the sniper bolters generally myself, they look too weird without a stock.
Psychosplodge
09-04-2016, 11:23 AM
I can understand that, I go with the idea between being linked with the power armour and the strength of a marine the stock is redundant. It wouldn't work for a guardsman though.

Is it really safe for a hobbyist/wargamer to even use the phrase 'finish something'? Aren't you risking being struck down by lightning or having the earth swallow you whole? ;)
On another note... the test model came together quite nicely.

Yeah one of those raven guard heresy squads. Wanted a more appropriate Stalker bolter. Made a nice five man squad that should make a mess of xenos infantry.
