Don't get me wrong. I'm going to buy a copy...but Tamurkhan wasn't even that much, and that book is flapping drop dead gorgeous. I'm hoping that I'm paying for similarly lengthed content and not just the extra metal bits they put on the cover :/ .

Additionally, I need to poll my friends here. Which Legion should I do as my pre-heresy army? Right now I have full Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Salamanders 40k armies painted. Where do I go pre-heresy. Clearly, I'm leaning towards one of those three, but I'm also willing to consider Raven Guard. Thoughts?

And oh yeah, of those four above, do you see a problem with jetbikes for any of them?

Everyone knows Raven Guard are the coolest Space Marines around, pre or post heresy. That's not even a choice. And all the legions would have access to jetbikes, so no worries on that front.

Interested in how the Jetbikes seem to only mount heavy weapons, and are mounted on 60mm bases. Looks like they're a completely different unit in purpose to Biker squads. Interesting approach, I guess having a "Upgrade to Jetbikes for +x points." is a dull way of handling awesome/expensive models.

You can get a 2'x8' sheet of 2" thick polystyrene for £8 from wickes, or £2 per 2'x2' sheet, which you can then sculpt however you want using a sharp knife or chisel, and pva glue when completed for a more durable surface.
OK you can't get particularly smooth or fine detail from cutting the polystyrene directly but some modelling clay or milliput for the detailed bits would work, and even covering the whole surface in something like milliput/green stuff will still cost you much less than £75/square.

It will be colossally messy and time consuming though.

I'm aiming to make up a trench system using something similar (3" insulation foam) when I get the time, and it should rock :)

Yeah. Problem was it was the first chance to buy some FW and by putting everyone in one queue, no one get there fast. Seeing as I never got to the front, i don't know if its true, but apparantly they were only using 4-5 tills for everything.

A lot of people literally spent there entire day in the queue and missed everything else

I on the other hand, advance ordered my FW stuff and went to the collection booth with no queue and walked away with it in 10 seconds.

Moral is if you want normal FW stuff ADVANCE ORDER IT

Definitely. I personally couldn't see myself buying stuff there when I can get it for the same price (or less) elsewhere with less waiting. If there was some incentive (discount, limited stuff, freebies) then yeah, I'd buy at the time.

But then I was viewing the thing as a hobby day and not a sales day. I'd be horrified to have spent that much time and money to attend and never manage to get past the shop.

Yeah I was in the queue for ages, the jester was good though, best bit was a GW dude who insisted I left the queue and come back later as there would be plenty of stuff to go around. I used colourful language and stayed put, glad I did as 2 hours later they shut up shop.

It was a long queue. Good half hour I'd been stood standing, waiting. And dry heaving. The guy in front of me could well have been a scientific experiment to fulfil all negative stereotypes about us nerds. Fat, neck beard, terrible dress sense, butt crack creeping above the waistband of his clarty jeans. And the smell. Dear god the smell. Stale, days old urine. Poop. Decaying sweat. This dude can't have washed in over a week. Enough grease in his hair to fry chips. If he had ever washed his clothes, one suspects he simply bunged them in the lav and flushed it a couple of times. I had to give in and leave the queue once he got right under the outflow of the air conditioning. He made my soul cry. There is NO justification for that complete lack of hygiene.

Next time, I'll set light to the offender.

The pose is dynamic, has a wailing doom in sword form, knees bent. Face is a lot more expressive.
Not as big as the FW version, but a little... Chunkier?

So are Lords of Battle defined as Primarchs and Super-Heavies (i.e. Fellblade and any others they bring out) only, or is there scope for different unit types to be allowed for this slot in this or future books? For example, might this be how they plan to add Custodians and so forth to Heresy-era armies? I appreciate that this might not be spelt out in the books but I'd appreciate your thoughts.

The avatar is almost certainly a trainee practise sculpt, GW show them quite a bit but haven't shown future releases in years. I wouldn't get too excited about those greens one way or the other. It is hideous though, I agree. The warlock is nice though, pity really.

Personally I like the primarchs at baneblade level of cost, they should be bad *** and but not totally invincible, they just need a special type of eternal warrior that counters all ID style effects (turning Horus into a spawn anyone? :p).

Ok Horus Heresy -

Next book - 'Massacre' - including Iron hands, Salamanders, Night Lords and Word Bearers. In the 2nd seminar Alan Bligh explained a lot about how the Primarch rules were put together - the basic outline for them all is done.

New Mechanicus being worked on - they have a torso done. Mourneival (spelling?) the sons of Horus termies are almost ready and look very cool.

Primarchs/Character boxes - Angron then Abbadon vs Loken, then Fulgrim, the probably Horus. Some will get more than one version.

Another titbit, more important than the rest because eldar are mentioned:

I asked Jez Goodwin about Eldar - he is thinking about them (described as always doing that!) - releases will 'fix obvious holes in the range'. They will look to release an Apoc size kit, but in general everyone was quite coy on the timescales.

IA 1 second edition will be like a summary book for Imperial Guard (all rules for current kits in one book). IA12 will be necrons (with a dynasty specific list), DKOK (with a '6th friendly' list) and Minotaurs.

HH - Legion specific contemptors - Death Guard and World Eaters appear to be finished.

While I was flicking through Jes Goodwin's Dark Eldar sketch book I saw concept art for the Void Raven bomber. "Oops, I should probably have taken that out" he said with a wink.
No pictures were allowed, but it's larger than the raven wing, with an elongated nose. The nose looked like it had a pattern cut out of it, but when I asked Jes he said it was a canopy and the way he imagined it was the pilot would be in the nose section leaning forward like the reaver jetbike models. He wouldn't give anything away on whether a model was due or if such a model would even resemble this sketch.
When I returned in the afternoon to show a friend the sketch had been removed and replaced with a Web Way Gate sketch. I saw the sketch was dated 2006 and asked Jes how far in advance he knew about 6th edition and if this was intended to work as a fortification. He was, again, very tight lipped and only said that anything not already produced was just waiting for a big green GO button.

Wow, been an exciting day of lurking!!.. I have played 40k for.. a while.. Close to 10 years now. I experienced a major drop in activity in interest when I moved and got married. I bought some SW stuff when they release, put together a Rune Priest, and a squad of Skyclaws, then stopped. A few weeks ago a buddy reposted something from BoLS' feed on FB... I liked the page and just skimmed it and the FW emails.. That was the beginning of the descent...

This stuff is exciting though, as I've always had a mind to do the Pre-Heresy bit, but with two kids now, the time to sculpt and such is severely less. Mechanicus coming out too should be a kick in my wallet!

I may be sleeping on the couch, but I guess FW and fine folk like you lot have piqued my interest enough to break out the toolbox of modeling tools.

Yah.. but ya know, a single Ork also nearly strangled the Emperor. And it took both the Emperor (in his prime) and Horus to fight him off. Not even kill him, just drive him back.

Finding the right balance between these fluff-extremes will not be easy.

I thought the current FW kit was entirely sufficient and not especially old -- at least 5 years, come to think of it -- but if it's FW isn't it pretty much the first time FW have resculpted something ... that isn't an IG tank, at least :D

I love but hate how all this new stuff is being revealed at the UK GD. I went to the US GD this year and nothing new was shown and the only thing was an announcement the Forgeworld was doing HH.

Theyre a british company, they prefer to show off all the big stuff at home. Plus its much easier for them to drive the stuff down the road from Notts to Brum rsther than fly it internationally

I saw the new Chaos Codex. I had a chat to Robin as I skimmed over it, but the main things I picked up were;

Cult units are back to Elites
Cult units are moved to Troops by taking their signature character or a Lord or Sorceror with the right mark
Daemon Princes with the right mark does not move Cult units back to troops
You can only move units to Troops for your Primary Detachment - you can't do this for allies at all
Abaddon moves Chosen to Troops
They're moving towards putting Troops choices in a Codex before Elites as that makes things a lot easier layout wise - as you've got to have a HQ and two Troops, it makes sense for them to be first.
Weapons and wargear have been split to Ranged Weapons, Melee Weapons, Daemonic Gifts and so on, so that things don't have to be listed over and over in multiple unit entries.
There are some unique chaos artefacts which the devs were quite surprised "aren't all over the internet already". I spotted one which was a Scroll, possibly of Magnus...

On the note of them being "weak", think about how spectacular space marine protagonists are in the fiction. Killing hundreds of enemies alone, surviving getting stomped on by a titan, Terminator armour being depicted as literally impenetrable to small arms fire etc. The heros of the story are always rolling 6s - so it's strange kinda strange to see them on the tabletop, where they can fail a Dangerous Terrain test, bonk their head on the ground and pass-out :P. Considering that Eldar Avatars are sometimes shown to have a slight edge over Primarchs in combat, the rules are probably just about right, even a little strong.

Ok, so I got to the venue at 8am and STILL WASN'T THE FIRST THERE!!! The whole queue pretty much stormed through entire venue to queue up at Forge World's stall, the GW staff all looked a bit bewildered.

Luckilly there were tons of HH books so even though I ended up about 400th in the queue I managed to get me a copy and some lovely terminators. I didn't get Angron. I did intend to but then figured that would be setting a dangerous precedent; buying them all at £50 each will come to £1000. I think I'll just get the Russ miniature and maybe the Big E if he comes along.

I got some pics but most of the best things have been posted up here already.

The one thing that made me weep tears of rage is Black Library's plan to release all HH novels in hardback in future. I would have been willing to defend them, saying they really are thinking of the fans with the extra art, etc, etc, but then I read this quote up on the poster: "We will also be releasing the entire back catalogue of Horus Heresy novels in this new format to allow you to complete your collection." At £17.99 a pop, I bet you're not just thinking of the fans BL... They released 5 HH books this year, no one ever buys 5 hard back books in a year, so good luck with that marketing strategy...

Oh no, you've got to be kidding. I just did a quick count and I have 5 hardback novels total, 3 of which were xmas presents and only one is BL (Priests of Mars impulse buy at a tournament because I was doing that army, normally I would've waited for paperback). It's doubly annoying because I have about 20 paperback novels in the series already.

I normally don't go in for the ragequit knee-jerk response but I would seriously consider boycotting them until the paperbacks are restored or released a year or two later.

Here's hoping they mean hardback collector's editions and will keep the paperbacks also.

Three main things I took from the Black Library Seminar (Afternoon), I may be 2+2 =5 lol

There are no plans for any Necromunda books for the forseeable future.

There's no reason they couldn't do the fall of the Eldar if authors wanted to do it, but it would prob be after the heresy, and they mentioned "The scourging"

Essentially the timeline ends with the 13th black crusade, except for the Ciaphas Cain books, as this is the reason ADB hasn't wrote more for a character introduced in the 13th black crusade.


Also, IIRC and they sold 7k tickets roughly 0.1% of attendees came up and brohoofed me...
