Well I guess I took Kirsten's idea of one combined 40k thread that I can update with what ever is on the table at the time.

I too like many of us have a severe hobby buterflyitus and don't generally stick to one army for very long. Orks and Chaos are my flavour of the month at the moment but just recently I completed these guys.
They are GK Paladins, with a little twist. I saw back along a picture of a grey knight from waaaayyyyy back and his armour was dark grey / black and I thought was Paladins in this colour scheme could look good. They were very easy to paint and no weathering here at all (I know). I went with edge highlights on the armour and the weapons were airbrushed, the gold is Vallejo liquid metals "green gold" which is just fantastic and i use the whole range for my metallics.
They do kind of look black legionish I think now, but I still like how they turned out.

I also tried a larger drill bit on the weapons, 1.5mm i think it was, I think it looks better than the smaller usual barrel hole

Those blades look epic.
Obviously you only need the two greyknights to kill everything... :D

Nice work there Tedlift(cool avatar by the way)

Here is a picture of my recently finished Salamanders Librarian, slightly converted from the spacehulk model. I removed the storm bolter and replaced it with a storm shield and decided I would paint the armour green and not the traditional blue. I think for me the force weapon on this model is the bit I enjoy the most. Both the the green of the armour and the force weapon were painted using my airbrush.

Very nice, and as always your weapons painting stands out...

So is the axe a dark blue light blue then white with the air brush?

Thank you, pretty much as you say on the axe head, except for the white line in the middle of the blade on either side. That was painted by hand. I tried to get a glow effect around the gold embellishment and used various very thinned, glazes of white using regular white paint and distilled water.

Sounds like a lot of work, appears to pay off though...

Another update, This time its a FW Contemptor Dread Mortis with x 2 Kheres Assault Cannons and Missile launcher. Played my 1st game with him on tuesday night and he took down a Heldrake in 1 round of shooting.

Airbrushed again for the main body and then the rest hand painted. Heat stains on the barrels were made using blue. purple and brown washes.

Here are some mk 4 assault marines from FW, just to prove I can paint without an airbrush too, the blending on the armour of these fellas was all done by hand :)

These are still wip

Seriously Joe, that's some nice painting there. :D

Very easy, its a squigly line of german grey (Vallejo) and then silver over the top. If you want really fine chips you can even use a pencil on the edges over the grey paint. :)

Are the marines that pale green in the background over a black undercoat?

There are 3 greens used in the painting of the armor

Recipe is this

Paints used are from the vallejo model color range, Deep Green, Light Green and Green sky. Nuln Oil wash by GW

1. Prime Black.

2 Paint armor with Deep Green

3. Wash armor with the Nuln Oil

4. Repaint armour with Deep Green leaving the wash showing in the recesses

5. 50/50 Deep Green and Light Green blended / layered into the previous colour

6. 33/33/33 Deep Green, Light Green and Green Sky blended / layered into the previous colour

Its quite long winded but once you have done it on 20+ spacemarines the process becomes much easier, I always water my paint 50/50 too. This is why I use dropper bottles, because I can get my blends of colour exactly how I want them every time :)

Something like Judge Gudge, but with my own twist

Yeah I did find recently the first time I used vallejo paints the differences in blending was amazing.

Not a big fan of the librarian (I think it's the washed out face, but there are a few bits I find that are just a bit 'off' for one reason or another) but the rest is absolutely stunning mate. I especially love the Contemptor and the Black and Gold Knights!

Note to self, I must try harder :). I'm onto some Emperors Children / Slannesh marines at the moment. I think the problem with my Salamanders army in general is my style of painting kept changing from unit to unit in an effort to find one result I liked over the others. Airbrushing, wet blending, oil washes, hard edge highlights. I have been trying them all. Whilst the palette always stayed the same the techniques changed and don't tie the army together as well as I would have liked.
This army I hope will be much more unified. I have zeroed in on my palette and figured traditional pinks, blacks and golds though out, spot colours will be turquoise and blues. Airbrushing most of the pinks and hand painting the rest. I am working on my chaos lord ATM, and will update later this week.

So not posted anything in awhile, but I have finally finished the contents of 2 Necron Battle forces I got for chrimbo plus a few extras. I posted a few pics of some stuff awhile ago and these are just a few quick pics from my iphone. Next up will be 3 Annihilation Barges, 6 Wraiths, 5 Destroyers and a Destroyer Lord. However I am hanging fire on the purchases just incase FW release something in the next few weeks or so. I may be tempted with some of that new stuff.

So I have added 3 Tomb Blades to my Necrons, I plan to add 2 more to have a full squad. Easy enough to assemble and paint. However step 8 got me confused which are the shield vanes on the back of the model. At this point during assembly the blades nearly turbo boosted into a wall, but after walking away and coming back after a calm down all was well. Nothing like a relaxing afternoon crafting :)

Whoaaaa its been ages since I posted any models on BoLs. Life eh ? Whats it all aboot ?
Anyway I'm up and running after a big splurge on all new hobby materials. New airbrush and compressor, paints and materials to do oil washes. Work space is pretty limited but its early days. Anyway I bought a Riptide and decided to paint it Farsight Enclave and magnetise the weapons whilst I was at it. Couldn't decide which head I liked the best either so I made that interchangeable too. As usual my camera work is a bit iffy. It really is down to space at the moment.

reading all the posts, very nice work Deadlift, especially on the iNecrons LOL.

I agree about the sally libby though, his face is too washed out, if his face was painted the more traditional Dark skinned as the old fluff stated, he would really pop.
