With both Warhammer World & my local GW planning small Kill Team tournaments I eager to create a fully converted Kill Team, but first I need to decide on what I’m using?

In case you are unaware of kill team rules it's basically a 200pt game where you can take 0-1 elite, 0-2 troops, 0-1 Fast attack and once the game begins every model is treated independently. Also 3 models can be made 'specialists' and be given a universal special rule (you can not take the same rule more than once) The rule of the game is as soon as your kill team is reduced to under half strength you must take a ld test (using the highest) each turn, once you fail it you team flees and you lose.

Sadly GW’s constant price rises and attitude toward the hobby I decided to not collect any new armies, however this presents me with a chance to flex my creativity again without fear of how much it will cost.

I’ve come up with 3 ideas for fully converted Kill Teams, so the problem now is which one to choose which is why I’m eager to hear your thoughts on each of the ideas?

TAU SHAS'LU'KAR COMMANDOS (SCRAPPED)
This was my first idea as way back when the Tau empire codex was released I converted this cool Commando suit after playing Republic Commando. I was going to go with 6 Stealthsuits but was told by someone who had used a similar list at another tournament not to use that list as I would be easily run down by most kill teams. So this one is a no go; as I’m not keen on spending time creating a team that will be easily run down in most games.

LEGIO CYBERNETICA ROBOT MANIPLE
My current project is a Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons army including detachments of Prospero Spire Guard as well as Cataphract Robots which will be used as allied Wolf Guard terminators (for the combi weapon)

http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/135/e/9/imperial_cataphract_robot_up_by_proiteus-d4zvc33.jpg

The Kill Team will consist of 4 terminators with combi weapons (one being a Techmarine conversion for the kill team leader) plus two power armoured warriors with storm bolters, converted as Hunter Seeker robots like this pervious conversion but with a bolter on each side.

http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs45/i/2009/151/3/3/Zanatorian_Mastermind_by_Proiteus.jpg

In the novel the Thousand Son’s robots are painted a regal blue and gold (exp; my army’s Conqueror robots) (http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/153/e/0/ph_thousand_sons_conqueror_robot_up_by_proiteus-d520b9h.jpg) but I’m thinking it maybe best to paint them in standard Mechanicus colours as some people may not get the blue and gold paint scheme?

BLOOD RAVENS FROM DAWN OF WAR 2
Nothing says Kill team better than the Blood Ravens from the Dawn Of War game, fielded as a Blood Angel stern guard squad…

Captain Diomedes: Power fist (Feel No Pain)
Tactical Sergeant Tarkus: Combi-Plasma
Devastator Sergeant Avitus: Missile Launcher (Relentless)
Assault Sergeant Thaddeus: Combi-Plasma
Techmarine Martellus: Combi-Flamer or melta
Scout Leader Cyrus: Missile Launcher (shrouding)

I feel each of the roles suit the characters nicely, sadly Thaddus couldn't be armed with a close quarter weapon and I couldn’t think of any other way to fit Cypus into the Kill Team, hopefully most people won’t mind a well armoured scout acting as a space marine given the theme.

THE OUTCAST DEAD
Unless you haven't read the novel ‘The Outcast Dead’ was a band of escaped prisoners of marines from the traitor legions that attempted to escape Terra though the slums of the city with an Astropath that held powerful knowledge of the future. The armour they created was batted and salvaged so they’d be converted from Ork, Chaos Maraduer and power armour bits.

http://www.blacklibrary.com/Images/Product/AlternativeBL/xlarge/outcast-dead-art.jpg

They were a powerful group of warriors so I’ll likely be using them as 7 BA Death Company marines.

Atharva - Adeptus Exemptus of the Thousand Sons (Kill team leader equipped with power fist, with either the blind or fear special rule to represent his mind powers)
Tagore - Sergeant, 15th Company of the World Eaters (power sword to represent the shattered halberd from the custodian guard)
Subha - Warrior, 15th Company of the World Eaters
Asubha - Warrior, 15th Company of the World Eaters
Severian (The Wolf) - Warrior, 25th Company of the Luna Wolves (shrouding)
Kiron - Warrior, 28th Company of the Emperor's Children (plasma pistol, his main weapon in the novel taken from one of the guards)
Gythua - Warrior of the Death Guard

The theme has a lot of potential as I could have the astropath Kai Zulane as my objective marker, my only worry is people not knowing who the Outcast Dead are?.

Well what do you think, which theme would you prefer to see converted into a Kill Team?
Hopefully next month I will start work on this project and this thread will become the project log for the idea chosen.re-name this thread.

Although I'm not overly jazzed by the conversion possibilities of the blood ravens, sternguard special ammo sounds most fun to play with.

I'd say either the Cataphracts or the Outcast Dead. Don't worry too much about those ideas being obscure, though, the concepts are pretty easy to summarize for your opponents.

Outcast dead

The story was great and each model / character gives you something unique. I love the astropath objective idea.

Ooo, had an idea for Atharva - "Psyker" is a universal special rule in 6th. As such, under Killteam rules, you could give him Psyker, which would result in him defaulting into a Psyker (Mastery Level 1), who could roll for a power on the tables the Blood Angels normally have access to.

Yep though I want to run it past the GW event team first, if I can take it I'll give the powerfist to death guard and give Atharva telepathy, accurate but limited given the Kill Team rules and psychic level so he can use only 'Dominate', 'Puppet Master' or 'Psychic Shriek'.

I voted for the robot maniple. I really like your conversion and would love to see more of them.

I say not Blood Ravens as marines are (compared to the other options) boring, and not outcast dead as I haven't read the book, so can't visualise them very well.

Judging from that pic and your description of bitz, I don't think they should have a 3+ save.

Of course I can't be 100% accurate, mine will be a bit more armoured as I'll be aiming to have each model in at least half power armour. Similar to this wolf scout conversion I found on the web but the armour will look a bit more cruder and I'll be replacing that wooden sheild on the front cover with one of the ork trukk plates.

My vote still goes to the robots, simply on the basis that it's a cool conversion that you don't see very often, and you won't likely get another chance to do it. and it's the most different from normal GW stuff.

Okay I'm still considering the robots mainly because very few people I've spoken to know who the Outcast Dead are, but for the moment lets talk specialists...

The Outcast Dead's are easy; The Thousand Son Atharva will have 'Psyker' (telepathy), The Luna Wolf Severian with have 'Shrouded' as he was skilled at remaining hidden and the Emperor's Children Kiron will have a 'master-crafted Plasma Pistol' as he prided himself on his shooting with the small firearm during the novel. The world eaters and death Guard are pretty much covered in the Death Company special rules.

But what specialist rules should I consider for the Legio Cybernetica Kill Team aside from the techmarine's FNP what 2 upgrades should I use on the remaining 3 Large terminator bots and 2 smaller bots? (weapon rules are now also allowed to given to a specialist's weapon)

Don't have the book to hand so these may not all be possible when you check the detail.

Psyker (Pyromancy fits with the pyrae robots chanelling powers through them, exploding fire out of the joints/weapons)

Preferred enemy (targeting software package, lots of lenses etc.)

Crack shot + assault cannon or cyclone (if still a USR, same conversion)

Shrouding (Thermoptic camouflage generator - paint as blending into base up to waist)

HULK SMASH + mark of Wulfen for lots of s8 AP2 hits at normal Initiative (Motor overdrive on arms) - might want to check this doesn't specify monstrous creatures in its rules.

Fleet (motor overdrive on legs): very useful for anything CC based

UPDATES
Made a few adjustments to the cataphract robot conversion; One of the biggest criticisms of the previous model was the fact the legs looked too Tau based in origin. So in response to this I removed the hoof feet and replaced them with interceptor backpacks and plasticard to create more robotic looking feet. I then covered up the joint using part of the barrel of the burst cannon.

Also regarding the outcast dead any idea who the warrior with the beard and fur cloak is? I'm reading the book from when then escape the prison and none of the characters have been described with a beard?

I liked the first iteration of the conversion better -- the small legs gave them a pleasant top-heavy look.

That sounds dirty ... but I liked the unbalancedness of the original version.

I've decided to go with the robot cohort (5 chaos terminators) as I can't afford the time or money to create the outcast dead at the moment.

However one of the cataphract robots will have the 'smash' rule and I'm trying to think of a way to convert it on the robot, so far my best idea is to give him a CC weapon gauntlet on each arm and replace the blade with a sort of knuckle duster. However both the boltgun and plasma weapon will then have to be mounted on his back which may look a bit cluttered.

Any suggestions?

i think the bearded guys is the son of horus... because only sw and luna wolves have pelts

Well the Kill Team event was fantastic quick paced and a lot of fun. The Kill Team I decided on was the Thousand Sons Cataphract robots representing a Wolf Guard terminator squad at Operation Protineus yesterday at Warhammer World. They played well, the only game I didn't enjoy was went I faced 3 flamer and 4 screamers, to add insult to injury 2 robots died from overheats in the first turn.

http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/346/9/2/ph_cataphract_robot_kill_team_by_proiteus-d5nsq7d.jpg

Because this is a Kill Team I can't just have robots so I need someone to lead them and who better than a Techmarine. I decided not to give him a servo hardness as he will never be used as a techmarine, he will be either another wolf guard terminator. I positioned the Techmarine's staff round so the staff top was facing the front, he'll also have the FNP rule to help him survive the firepower Kill Team leaders are likely to attract.

http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/345/2/a/thousand_sons_pyrae_techmarine_by_proiteus-d5npwyn.jpg

Next with have the 'Smashbot'; because of he's twin power gauntlets that represent a Power Maul with the Smash rule I had no where to put his ranged weapons, the storm bolter didn't look right so I replaced it with an old ork pistol and created a attached servo skull to represent the single plasma gun shot.

http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/345/4/e/cataphract_robot_with_power_gauntlets_by_proiteus-d5npwn6.jpg

This one is by far my favourite as he looks like he's ready to take on any opponent. This robot has a combi-melta which I have given the 'Torrent' special rule (yes this was legal at this event but has been removed) so I added a shoulder mounted flamer for the bolter's template, but best of all I converted this awesomely destructive weapon I call 'The Firestorm Cannon' which destroys everything is fires upon however it suffers from a long recharge time so it can only be fired once per game (i.e the metlagun's torrent shot). He was certainly a destructive force in most games.

http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/345/2/b/cataphract_robot_with_firestorm_cannon_by_proiteus-d5npwga.jpg

I plan to attend the next event in April and will likely create the Outcast Dead for that one since I'll have 3 months to take time painting and preparing them.
