Just saying "hello" to all here. I'm a lifelong gamer, but very new to 40K (started modelling earlier this year but waited to start playing until 6th edition came out).

I'm currently playing codex Space Marines with my own chapter name and color scheme, at least until I know the rules pretty well and can branch out some with the Allies rules. Figured that codex Marines were a good place for a new player to start.

Looking forward to fully exploring my new addiction!

I had enough time while waiting for 6th to drop that I've managed to paint a pretty respectable force. I want to take some better pics, but the general color scheme and such can be seen in the pic below:

What colour is that? It's quite an effective looking scheme.

Thanks! The base color is Army Painter's "Fur Brown" for the two tactical guys (center and left), with khaki and bone white for the shoulder pads. The backpacks are done with Army Painter Oak Brown and Weapon Bronze. I have to take some better (and closer) pics so you can see more of the detail. The Terminator's armor is done in Mahogany Brown with a bone white helmet. The power fist is in brass, while the autocannon is in gunmetal blue and bronze.

I actually used the Army Painter spray primer for the base coat, and it was terrific. Great coverage and a really even coat to start from. I used their dark tone Quickshade varnish to finish the models.

Okay, now I have to take some real pictures and put them up in the painting section. I'll post a link to it here once I get them up.

Is it the flash that's making it look almost metallic?

Actually, I didn't use the flash when I took the picture. I think that is most likely coming from the Quickshade Varnish, as it leaves a slightly glossy sheen when it's dry.

Thanks! I have been reading here for a while, but thought I should take the plunge and start posting.

The color scheme was a lot of fun to work out. I used the fur brown and some of the other base colors for all the models, but tried to give some variation for different unit types. For example, the troop units have different shoulder pad colors than the fast attack units, and the Terminators have a darker base color for their armor (mahogany as opposed to fur brown). I did that mostly to keep myself from getting too bored with painting them, but they look great when they're all together.

Thanks! It was loads of fun to paint. I'm going to get some pics up soon with better detail and more of the different units I have done.
